High School. After high school, Betty worked for a finance company in Ohio before marrying her loving husband, the late Donald Smith. They were married for 63 years until his passing in 2021. Betty moved to Grand Prairie from Ohio in 1976 along with her husband and daughters. She worked for the Grand Prairie Independent School District as an Administrative Assistant in elementary and middle schools for 30 years. Betty had a tremendous love for the children and enjoyed helping them and working with them over the years. She had a sweet loving spirit and gift for making every child feel important, special, and loved. Students remembered Betty long after they left school. No matter where she went, grocery store, restaurant or shopping mall, someone was always coming up to her saying “Hello Mrs. Smith, do you remember me?” And of course, she remembered each one. After retiring from the school district, Betty helped care for her granddaughter and grandson, and was an amazing grandmother. Betty had a wonderful sense of humor and laughter was a huge part of her days. She loved flowers, butterflies, and all animals, including her many dogs over the years. She also enjoyed music and dancing, especially Polka dancing, and loved to listen to gospel music. She even taught dancing with her late husband when they lived in Ohio. Her passion was cooking Slovak food from her heritage and collecting many recipes. Betty had a strong faith and love for the Lord, and He was the foundation for her life. Anyone who met Betty could see His light shining through her. Betty is survived by her daughter Lisa Smith, daughter Susan and her husband Neal Wagliardo, and her grandchildren Brian Wagner, Megan Wagner, and Grant Wagliardo, along with her nieces and nephews who she cherished and loved. Betty is now in heaven with her loving husband Donald Smith, her sisters Anne Vilag and Margaret Mrovak, her brothers Michael and William Waliga, and her parents Michael and Anna Waliga. Graveside services will be held at DFW National Cemetery. Family and friends may share condolences and memories at www.grandprairiefh.com
