Billy Wayne Green passed away February 15, 2013 in Arlington, Tx. He was born March 24, 1943 in Terrell, Tx to John William Green and Opal Norman Henderson. For Billy growing up consisted of playing marbles, pitching for the baseball team and taking the kids money by rolling craps. Even in the beginning he loved to gamble, which in his case was a good thing since he would win most of the time. His luck came in handy while he served 6 years in the Air Force Reserve.
On May 24, 1974 after over a year of dating, Billy married Dixie Posey, it was love at first sight. Billy’s mother Opal is the person who actually set them up. She was good friends with Dixie, and one night when her son was in town she called her friend over for dinner. Mother’s always know best! They were happily married for 38 years. Billy was a quiet man with a kind and generous heart who loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was always fun to be around, telling jokes and pulling pranks. He was an avid Ranger and Cowboy’s fan, sharing the experience with his sons. The other thing that he loved to share with his sons was the horse race track, specifically a horse name “Vencendor’s Lad”. He enjoyed the thrill of the win, and if his joy was being threatened to come to a short end he would often pass off a small winning ticket to buy him a couple more races. He liked the race track so much that after 23 years of being in insurance he got a job at the Lone Star Park Race Track where he enjoyed 17 years before he retired. If you didn’t find him at the track you find him in his immaculate yard, picking up sticks or pulling weeds by hand. He worked long and hard in his yard leading him to win yard of the month.
Billy is preceded by his parents John William Green and Opal Norman Henderson, stepfather Johnny “John” Henderson and son Mark Anthony Crews. He is survived by his wife Dixie Green; sons David Green and wife Niki Roark, Charles Crews and wife Sherry, William Crews and wife Denyse all of Grand Prairie; grandchildren Skylar and Trenton of Burleson, Brady, Colton and Branson of Grand Prairie, Jason and Shannon Crews of Grand Prairie, Amy and Jackie Coonrod of Midlothian, Krystal and Jeremy Burkett of Sulphur Bluff, Nicole Crews and Kevin King of Grand Prairie, Kaylani Crews and William Crews of Grand Prairie; great-grandchildren Hailey Edwards, Nathan Crews and Jaden Crews of Grand Prairie, Matthew and Madison Coonrod of Midlothian, Tristen and Sarah Burkett and Audrey and Lacey Wilemon of Sulphur Bluff; sisters Sue Harker and husband Robbie of Midlothian, Patsy Powell and husband Jimmy of Elmo, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, friends and family.
