

Byron Allan Lewis, 83, of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away Jan. 8, 2023. Byron was born Dec. 30, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Byron W. and Eula E. Lewis. He graduated from East High School in Kansas City in 1957 and attended the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Byron is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Lewis, daughter Michelle Rodriguez (Francisco), son Garth Lewis (Erica) and grandchildren Benjamin Lewis and Sophia Lewis, all of Grand Prairie, and sister Marilyn Donnelly (John) of Cordova, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Byron was an Eagle Scout and also served as Boy Scout Leader in Cody, Wyoming, and Grand Prairie. He was a lifelong Presbyterian and served as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Cody and as a Deacon and Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Prairie.
After college, he started his career in credit management with Montgomery Ward in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and worked for various corporations in Wyoming, Colorado and Texas until retirement at age 70.
He was an avid model train enthusiast, baseball and sports memorabilia collector, and sports fan.
Other hobbies included reading about the Civil War, World War II and the American West. He was always up for taking a drive through Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain national parks or cruising the highways of Dallas-Fort Worth.
His grandchildren could always count on him for a ride home from school, a special lunch out, or a snuggle in his favorite chair.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Heart Association or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
