Carlyle Michael Igo, of Ashton, South Dakota, passed away of natural causes on September 6, 2026, at his residence in Grand Prairie, Texas. He was 83 years old.
He was born in International Falls, Minnesota to Lloyd and Opal Irene Igo. He joined his two older brothers, Lowell and Loren Igo.
The family moved outside Ashton, SD, where he assisted the family on the farming homestead.
Affectionately known as, “Mickey “by friends and family, he graduated from Northville Northwestern High School in 1961. He enjoyed playing football and basketball while attending school.
In June of 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Erika Suggar. He entered the United States Air Force and honorably served for 21 years including assignments in Wisconsin, Florida, and Italy. During this time, he received the following awards: Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Tour ribbon, Longevity Service award and attended the Noncommissioned Officers Professional Military Education where he was recognized for excelling in this training.
During those years, he and Erika worked as a team raising two beautiful kids, Michael Igo and Diedre LaFond. After retiring from the military, he moved back to Ashton, SD, and became the manager for St. John Welding outside of Redfield, SD.
He and Erika enjoyed many hobbies together including fishing, gardening, pheasant hunting, and looking for wild asparagus. When not engaged in one of these hobbies, you would often find him watching his favorite football team, the Green Bay Packers, or a good NASCAR event on the television. He and Erika enjoyed listening to country music and occasionally you could find them sliding across the kitchen floor listening to one of their favorite artist Brooks and Dunn songs, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Erika Igo and sibling Lowell Igo.
He is survived by his two children Diedre (Billy) LaFond; Michael (Monica) Igo; his amazing grandchildren; Samantha LaFond, Kristin Igo and Emma Igo; his brother Loren Igo of Tulare SD.
Mickey will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His greatest legacy is not what he left behind, but what he left within us.
