Carol Kay Cantrell

Carol Kay Cantrell, age 83, of Arlington, Texas passed away on January 12, 2022. Carol was born in Dallas, Texas to W.A. Gatlin and Peggy Joan Harris Gatlin on September 12, 1938. She graduated from Grand Prairie High School in Grand Prairie, Texas in 1957. After high school, she attended Baylor University obtaining her bachelors of Liberal Arts. Carol then began attending the University of Texas in Arlington graduating with a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 1982. Her career spanned 35 years as an English and Latin teacher for Grand Prairie High School. In 1961, she married the love of her life, Roy Loyd Cantrell. Carol and Roy raised four children, James, Gary, Calvin and Sherry. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She also loved the lord and was faithful to her church (she joined at 5 years old), First Baptist of Grand Prairie where she sang in the Serendipity choir, church choir, and played the dulcimer. She was a member of the church for 75 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Loyd Cantrell; brother James Montie Gatlin; granddaughters Jillian Kay Cantrell and Miranda Lee McWhirter. Carol is survived by her sister, Barbara Dingman and husband Lewis; her children, sons James Cantrell and wife Robin, Gary Cantrell, Calvin Cantrell and wife Deborah; daughter Sherry Dorrell and husband William; grandchildren Jordan Palmer, Jacqueline Cantrell, Jessica Cairnes and husband Ricky, Noah Dorrell, Madeline Renee Cantrell; seven great grandkids, Jaylee King, Willow Cairnes, Lily Jackson, Emma Jackson, Jett and Avery Jackson, Audrey Jackson; the family’s beloved puppy, Zelda and her many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 5, 2022 at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie, 950 Mayfield Road, Grand Prairie, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to UT Southwestern Medical Center, Office of Development and Alumni Relations, PO Box 910888, Dallas, TX 75391-0888.
