

Ralph "Clayton" Hutchins, age 85 of Grand Prairie, Texas passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 in Dallas. Clayton was born on April 9, 1938 in Bossier City, Louisiana to Ray Hutchins and Vesta (Bell) Hutchins.
Clayton began his lengthy law career when he received his undergraduate degree in Education from the University of Texas in Austin. He taught at Allen Junior High School in Austin for three years before beginning Law School. Clayton received his Law Degree from the University of Texas in 1968.
Clayton was City Attorney of Texarkana, Grand Prairie, Bedford and Carrollton. He was in private practice for three years, including his practice while in Texarkana. He specialized in trial and appellate law. He has 32 reported (in law books) appellate cases. In addition to the Texas State Courts, he was admitted to practice in the Federal District Courts of the Eastern and Northern Districts of Texas, the Fifth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. Clayton was on the Board of Directors and the President of the Texas City Attorneys Association. Clayton retired from the City of Carrollton in May 2016, but continued his private practice.
Clayton had a small band called the Little City Band. They played German, Ragtime, Dixieland and Big Band music for 12 years. While he played tuba, his wife of 48 years, Una, played clarinet. He and Una have played in the Grand Prairie Community Band, the Arlington Civic Band, the First Baptist Church Orchestra and many summer musicals, including the famous Tuba Christmas in Dallas. He also played in the Carrollton Community Band and had a small band called Carrollton Breeze.
Clayton has taught Sunday School classes off and on for many years and most recently an adult class at First Baptist Church Grand Prairie.
Clayton loved to hunt and fish in his spare time. He and Una have a cabin near Hillsboro, Texas. They would also try to travel and sometimes take cruises.
Clayton is survived by his beloved wife, Una; children, Mark Bramlett, Kim Bramlett, Holly Hutchins, Garry Hutchins and Nicole Hutchins; grandchildren, Charlotte, Jon Cole, Avery, Cheyanne and Cheynna; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members
A visitation for Clayton will be held Friday, October 27, 2023 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church Grand Prairie, 950 Mayfield Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75052. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 PM at Grand Prairie Memorial Gardens, 3001 S. Belt Line Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75052.
Serving as pallbearers are Brent Hutchins, Greg Hutchins, Brad Hutchins, Walter Hutchins and Mark Bramlett.
