I cherish the fact that God blessed me with such an awesome mom and dad. They tried their bests to please the Lord in their lives and be examples to us. They went through ups and downs in Life, but God’s love conquers all things. I have so many fond memories of that beautiful woman I called Mom. I could see God’s love in her. She not only preached it, but she lived it. She had the ability to see the goodness in people. She always looked to help everyone, not just physically, but spiritually. 

One thing I remember that has stayed in my mind, and will until the day I die, is what my mom and another church member did once. During a very hot week in South Texas, they went to Port Isabel where there was a tent camp for undocumented people waiting to be processed. For three days, my mom and Sister Robledo cooked rice, beans, fried chicken, and tortillas for those hungry people using funds the church members collected. They were not allowed to enter the camp, but they were allowed to pass the food through the barbwire fence. They would get home late in the evening after somehow feeding hundreds of people with limited supplies. God provided! They both came back so happy, praising God.

What is amazing is that years later, people would come to our home looking for my mother. They wanted to thank her in person for her kindness. That is what stays in my mind: that she had love for total strangers.

My mama had set a goal in her life’s journey, that she wanted to see her Maker. She used to tell me all the time, “Son, I’ll be seeing you there soon. When you get there, I’ll be waiting for you.” My tears are not tears of sadness. I know she is with her Maker and is waiting for me and the rest of her loved ones. Lord, thank you for my blessed mom. I will go to her, since she can’t come to me.

One of my earliest memories of grandma was when I was courting Gina. I knew that every summer the family would go down to visit her in the Valley. This process was very new to me because my own grandmother was never really around. When I arrived at her home, she welcomed me with open arms. This is when she made me cactus with ground beef. Growing up eating noodles your whole life, this is what I would call "different". I could not communicate well with her because I didn't speak Spanish, but I did learn a small portion from one of my military friends. "Te cuidas," and I have been blessed to know you.

I didn’t know you as well as my mom did, if I’m being completely honest. I’m sitting here writing about someone my mom and her siblings saw as an example — never thought I’d be writing in past tense about you. I remember telling my friends about you. You were “the great grandma who always loved God.” Basically, what I’m trying to say is...you were an amazing person, and example to your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and we wouldn’t be where we are now without you. We love you.

She was the one who brought God into our family so long ago, something that I’ll be grateful for until the day I die.
My abuelita was learning English because of her grandchildren, and she was determined.
Apparently she was good with me as a child too, although I don’t remember too much from that time. You may not remember the person themselves, but what you can remember are their works.
I know by the way my family talks about her that she was a devout Christian, and that started us on the road that led us to Christ. Thank you, great grandma.

If I were to write all the fond memories I had of my sweet and loving abuelita , I would feel a library.  I can't begin to express the hole in my heart because I will no longer hear the voice of my gma giving advice and  talking with me  about all the fond memories we had .   But i know we were all fortunate to have had her as part of our lives for so long.  She was an angel that God sent to keep us all "in line".   The biggest thing I remember is the peace I would feel when I was with her.. My grandmother was a beautiful soul and will be sorely missed.  I know she's in a better place and will always be in our hearts.   She was a strong christian woman and always talked to us about God and his mercy. "Abuelita, te quiero, with all my heart, you've had a long journey and you can rest now".    Goodbye for now.  I hope one day to see you again.

Dear Grandma, we are very sad that you have left this world, but deep down you know you wouldn’t have wanted us to be sad. When we first met you, you were very kind and giving. I could tell even though I was still a kid. You left a nice legacy of love, kindness, forgiveness and more. We will all love you forever and ever and will never forget you.

Abuelita Cristina, desde el primer momento yo era una extraña caminando hacia su silla, pero sin importarle  sus lindos ojitos  me miraron con ternura y abrió  sue brazos para recibirme con mucho amor. Sin conocerme me trató con mucho amor, porque  usted era un ángel  enviado por Dios para demostrar el verdadero ejemplo y amor . Su sonrisa tan linda siempre contando historias muy interesantes y consejos de mucha sabiduría. Siempre  cuando comía y platicaba, sonreía mientras  tomaba su cafecito con pan dulce o Pepsi.  Me encantaba sentarme con usted abuelita. Le admiré siempre  por tener una vida llena de esperanza y de amor no importando las circunstancias que usted tuvo que pasar por difíciles y dolorosas.  Nunca nunca quitó sus ojitos de Dios.  Siempre disfruté esas canciones tan bonitas que cantaba abuelita. Gracias por amarme mucho y darme su bendición para mi y mi familia. Me alegra mucho que tuvimos la bendición de verla  y darle besitos y abrazos que se quedarán en mi alma. Mi más sentido pésame a todos en la familia y que Dios llene sus corazones de fortaleza.

Grandma Cristina, from the first moment I was a stranger walking towards your chair, your cute little eyes looked at me tenderly and with opened arms you received me with much love. Without knowing me, you treated me with a lot of love, because you were an angel sent by God to demonstrate true example of love. Your beautiful smile-always telling very interesting stories and advice of great wisdom. Always when you ate and talked, you smiled while sipping your coffee with sweet bread or Pepsi. I used to love sitting with you buelita. I always admired you for having a life full of hope and love no matter the circumstances that you had to go through. You never took your little eyes off God. I always enjoyed those beautiful songs that you sang. Thank you for loving me so much and giving your blessing to me and my family. I am very happy that we met.  My deepest condolences.

My earliest memories of my Abuelita were always our drive every summer to "the valley" to visit both sets of grandparents. First stop was Harlingen. Always remembered turning down the small side street where the cotton or rice mills were located off Hwy 77, going over the tracks and hopping onto 77 Sunshine Strip. We were almost there. On Marjory Ave, we would arrive all tired and sometimes a bit grumpy from a 6-7 hour drive. only to be greeted by my grandfather who was almost always outside tending to the birds and other wildlife they were raising and giving us hugs and kisses. Then there was my grandmother who always had her arms out ready for us while screaming at the parrots. She almost always had lunch or dinner ready depending on how late we arrived. Either way, she was always making sure us kids were fed so heartily we would not have room for anything else. Lots of homemade tortillas, rice, beans, and other delicious meats on the side. She almost always had sweets for me and my brother Luis since were the youngest and always hungry. Even though they had very little in the way of money, my grandparents were rich in their love for their children, and their grandchildren. I will treasure these moments as I'm sure all my siblings and cousins will the rest of our lives.

My sweet and precious Abuelita. I will forever treasure all the special memories we created together when I was a child and, as an adult. Your words were always full of love and encouragement and boy, could you give some awesome hugs! Anytime I sent or gave you a gift, I knew that it had to be of a spiritual nature because I knew it’s what you valued most in your life. God’s Word was paramount to you and anything that had scripture on it, you absolutely treasured 100%. After all, you were the Scriptures wrapped up in a little human body. It is all you spoke no matter the topic at hand. Scripture ALWAYS applied! I have so many happy memories with you but, my most favorites, are of you with my baby girl, Gabby. I was so happy you got to meet her and spend time with her although, I will always regret not bringing her more often these past years to see you. I will always miss your silly humor, funny faces, sermons, you singing your favorite hymns, your love for animals (which I definitely inherited from you!), your house, your food, your hugs but, most of all, your infinite love for me. As sad as I am that you’re no longer here to hug, I’m happy you’re where you always wanted to be. Life wasn’t very kind to you many times. In fact, it was pretty cruel but, you never lost faith in your Heavenly Father. Your faith never wavered no matter what life threw at you. You persevered with nothing but love and an everlasting hope in your heart and you spread that love and hope to all you encountered. I will always be thankful to God for bestowing me the honor of being your first granddaughter. Thank you for being the wonderful example you were to us all. You were our angel on this earth and now, you’re our angel in heaven. As I always ended my letters to you, te amo mucho mi querida Abuelita. You will be missed. Give my Abuelito a hug and kiss for me. I look forward to the day that I can hug you both again and finally meet my Tio Luis.💕

I’m so blessed to have known my ‘buelita for 4 glorious decades.  I feel that the Lord spoiled me by allowing me to create such good memories with the time I had with her.  I am not saddened, for I know that one day we will reunite in heaven, forever to commune with our Creator and live in His light and love.  On this side of Earth, I have a new guardian angel that can look over my family and still encourage me to do the right thing. Thank you, Lord, for relieving her of this painful earthly body and robing her with an incorruptible one.  I will see you again one day, ‘buelita!  I await the gorditas you’ll be preparing for me in Heaven, and say “hello” to my Papa Ramon and tell him to get the dominos ready.  I love you all. 

Güelita was a Godly and giving person. I’ve even heard people say that “she gave until it hurt”! She would give as much as she could for those who needed it.

I remember the first time we visited her in Harlingen, after she moved back. We were introducing ourselves to her. Güelita would forget our names every five minutes or so, but was still cheerful. The fact that she was still welcoming when she forgot who you were is something worth remembering.

Güelita was also giving and kind to even strangers! That’s the mentality all of us should learn from her. 

Even if I didn’t grow up with all the memories others have, I still feel her around us. When we went to visit her body I imagined her right there with us. That Güelita was signaling to us that she’s in a better place. This gives many of us a reason to have faith in God, so we are able to she her again.

When I was around four or five years old, my mom would go to my grandmother’s house to help clean around the house and take care of Guelita. I remember that I would like to try and help Guelita make coffee when she wanted some. She would get happy when I brought the things she needed over to her. At other times, my sister and I would take Guelita’s walker when she was sitting down, and start acting like we were old. She would always laugh when we did that and my sister and I loved it when she laughed. 

Guelita was always a joy to be around with. She was also very devoted to what she believed in. There was absolutely no doubting how much faith she had to God. 

I remember one of the last times Guelita talked to me. She gave me a sermon of hers about God and Jesus and how I should be. She talked for a long time, longer than I thought she could go. During the time that my Guelita lived with my grandmother, you could see Guelita in her room, studying the Bible, not distracted by anything and being very focused I what she was reading.

We are all going to remember what an example Guelita was to all of us. She left a big mark on everyone she talked to. We are going to miss Guelita and the impact that she made to all of us very much.

Im deeply sorry for the loss of My great grandma, though i only got to see her when my mother [Christine Vallejo] went. She was the only one that was able to talk to me about religion. though i was not a religious person, the way she spoke to me was in a form i could understand and learn lessons from. I do sometimes ponder on what it would be like if i got to see her more often. I apologize heavily to the ones who have. My heart and thoughts go out to them. I saw her strength at such an age she was at, so my best thought is she could
Give out but never give up. I loved her for the time i could be there. And im sorry i wasn't able to be there more often.

Since the beginning that I met you it was so easy to love you.  I’m so fortunate to have known Güelita. It was so easy to make you happy when I used to sing to you church songs and it never failed: you always smiled and cried at the same time.

This picture is the first time I met you. Gabriel  introduced me to you before we got married because he always said  it’s was important for him and to you. You always made me feel like you loved me. 

I miss you so much. I know I have hope to see you again in heaven. I love you!

One of my biggest memories of Güelita is she would always let me play with her arm, and would let me tell her stories even if she didn’t understand what I was saying. She would always make me laugh and would always talk about God and teach us the importance of him. She will be greatly missed but I know that we will see her again one day. Love you so much, Güelita!




During my childhood, going to grandma's house in the summers was always exciting because I knew there was going to be so much food, games, riding bikes around the neighborhood, and all the cousins would be there. It was a house full of love, laughter, and importantly, the word of God was always; spoken. Those are precious memories that I will treasure forever. Grandma, the strength you have obtained throughout your lifetime is such inspiration to me. You would tell me that in life, that there will be difficult decisions or complicated situations that I may encounter, but if I fully accept God into my heart, with his guidance, I can withstand anything. Having you come live with us was a great honor because we got to make more beautiful memories together. I know we talked about going around the world together, but when God is ready for me, we will. You are truly going to be miss, and it is not the same without you, but I know we will see each other again.

My favorite memories of my early childhood all include Grandma. We lived next door to to her for the first seven years of my life. Grandma always knew what I needed without asking. She knew I loved to draw, so she had paper, pencils, and chalk handy. When my brothers and sisters wanted to play, she had bed sheets for us to make tents. When we were hurt, she had her aloe vera pants ready to help. We were never hungry, because Grandma was always cooking. We played in Grandma’s large yard during the day, and then we played in the neighborhood streets until night. Grandma walked with us, sometimes rode her bicycle with us, and told stories as we went. Most of all, Grandma knew what we needed. She never missed an opportunity to show us through her actions how to love others and most of all, how to love God. Thank you, Lord, for every day You let her stay here longer for us. 

My precious mother that I love with all my heart and soul. I am going to miss your beautiful face, your laughs, and especially all the advice you bestowed on me. Never will I forget what you have done for me my whole life, and for that, I will always be grateful. God bless me with the most amazing mother, and I will cherish all the memories we had together. You will forever be in my heart.

My grandmother was present for most of my sweetest memories as a child. She was a beautiful open book, and that book was definitely the Bible! Though she experienced so much heartache throughout her life, she never once lost her faith. My grandmother persevered through the worst of times, and taught us how to navigate through them, just by her example. Everything that she was, she attributed it to God. Every time a person gave her praise, she would always correct you with, "Oh no, no, no, it's all thanks to my Savior!" She was just a loving soul, and I will never forget her beautiful voice. I love you so much, grandma, and thank you for everything you've ever done for us... whether you knew it or not.

Below is a photo of her and my firstborn daughter, Syrene. That smile is something that I will never forget.

I’m so happy to have been blessed with such an awesome Christian woman for my Mother. I vividly remember that as a very young boy she would kneel down on her knees so as to get eye level with me and look straight into my eyes in order to make sure I would grasp whatever bit of wisdom she was trying to impress upon me before she even started to speak. It was through this way that she taught me about respect, love, care, empathy, and civility towards other people, family or strangers alike. It was through her advice, instruction, role model, and mentoring that I became the man that I am today. Evan more importantly was the Christian upbringing that she instilled in me will be the lasting legacy for the rest of my life. Love you, Mamacita querida! ❤️ 

I guess the best memory n the most important, is the day I met her! I was nervous becauuse Ramon told me what she had said about meeting  any girl he dated. She told jhim that the only girl she would meet, would be the one he was going to marry! She was wonderful n from then on I spent time with them! When Ramon left for the Army, I would take a bus to Harlingen from Brownsville on a Saturday n we would study the Scriptures n on Sunday I would go to church with them! I continue this until we got married n had my first baby in 1967! I got baptized in November 1967! So you see , she was always fervently teaching God's word! She was my second momn i learned so many wonderful things thru her! Love you so Suegra n will miss you immensely!❤📖

One of my first memories of my life was being outside our old house that was connected to my grandparents house.  It was a small, one bedroom house that is already torn down now. 

But my Güelita was talking with my mom outside when she set me on top of an old washer. She told me to fill my cheeks with air then squeezed them together so I would make funny sounds. It made her laugh SO hard and, as a child, I did, too. We never stopped doing it, even as I grew older. 

She was a lot of things and everything. But most importantly, she was truly loving to her God and to everyone she met. 

I will forever have her memories with me and I know I will see her again one day.
