

Delmas F. Morton, 93, longtime Grand Prairie resident and Grand Prairie Independent School District educator and a proud veteran of the United States Army, departed this life on November 29, 2024, at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas. He was born on February 13, 1931, in Dallas, Texas to the late John O. and Dixie B. Morton.
Delmas graduated from Dallas’ Booker T. Washington High School, received his Bachelor’s Degree from Texas College in Tyler, Texas and received his Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. He served active duty in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 with a tour of duty in Europe. He was united in matrimony to Clarecia in 1955 and to this union was born a son, Brunswick.
Delmas was a 40-year educator with the Grand Prairie Independent School District and served close to two decades as Principal of Stephen F. Austin Elementary. He was very active in the Grand Prairie community serving as long-time Boy Scouts of America Scoutmaster for the Dalworth Community’s Troop 151, serving as a youth football coach in the Grand Prairie YMCA youth football league, and served in various other volunteer capacities over the years. He was an active and loyal fan of the Grand Prairie High School Gophers following them at home and on the road for multiple decades. Delmas was also recognized by the Grand Prairie High School Alumni Association with the 2005 Outstanding Educator Award.
Delmas was a loyal and dedicated long-time member of the Grand Prairie Episcopal and Anglican communities for close to 60 years. He was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church and St. Andrew’s Episcopal/Anglican Church, both of Grand Prairie. He served on the Vestry Board at St. Joseph’s and was part of a relocation committee when the Church moved further South. He also served as a long-time member of the St. Andrew’s Church Choir.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of over 32 years Clarecia S. Morton, his parents John O. and Dixie B. Morton, his stepmother Mary C. Morton, his brothers James D. Morton and Samuel R. Morton, and sister Lois F. King. He is survived by his sister Dixie M. Caraway, son Brunswick O. Morton (Carmen), grandson Douglass O. Morton, his lifelong friend Zephyr H. Lee, and a host of nieces and nephews to whom he was affectionately known as “Uncle Del”, along with many other relatives, colleagues and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Irving, Texas, 2700 Warren Circle, Irving, TX 75062-9242 on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. and, due to inclement weather, the Interment at DFW National Cemetery has been postponed until further notice.
