Don graduated from Hamden High School and received his BA from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. He married Bernice Schildgen on July 16, 1955.
Don owned an Independent Insurance Agency with a partner. He was a member of Kiwanis for 45 years. He had a passion for flying, and loved that his and Bea's backyard faced an airport runway. He also enjoyed time with his family and was an elder at their church. Don was also a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bernice "Bea"; children, John (Kathy) Oberholzer, Diane (Kevin) Reynolds, David Oberholzer, Michael (Trish) Oberholzer; 10 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; sister Clarice (Dan) Bauer of Pataskala, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Bob (Rosemary) Schildgen of Springfield, Illinois, and Art (Celeste) Schildgen of Loveland, Colorado; as well as, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
