Doris Pauline (Roberts) Wells, age 94, passed peacefully in her sleep on August 2, 2026 less than a month before her 95th birthday. Doris was a long-time resident of Grand Prairie, Texas. Doris was born August 31, 1931 in Littlefield, Texas to Joseph Eugene B. Roberts and Myrtle Myers Roberts. She moved with her family to Tucumcari, New Mexico where they owned and operated a motor court on Route 66. It was there that she met her husband, Linard Wells who had come to visit his sister, Mildred, following his service in World War II. Doris and Linard married a month later, and together they had five children, Linard Junior (Lin), Jay, Janna, Jonathan (Jon), and Shauna. Doris and Linard had been married almost 60 years when he passed in 2007.
Doris was a caring mother, and a doting grandmother who was known to feed her grandkids marshmallows and whipped cream for breakfast because that's what they wanted.
Doris was a pastor’s wife, and as such she helped shepherd several different Nazarene church congregations over the years. She was a bulwark of faith. She was creative and multi-talented. She was a seamstress with a dedicated clientele who relied on her for alteration services. Doris was also artistic and loved to paint. She was a strong and independent woman with a great sense of humor (a little on the dry side).
She was predeceased by her parents, all of her siblings, her husband, Linard, her son, Jonathan, and her daughter-in-law Cindy. She is survived by her children Linard (Lin) Wells, Jay Wells, Janna Lund, and Shauna Van Geem and her husband Steven, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She lived a full life, and she loved and was loved by many.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Lin Wells, Jay Wells, Cory Wells, Jason Wells, Jordan Wells, Derek Lund and Steven Van Geem.
Visitation will be held at Grand Prairie Funeral Home, 733 Dalworth Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75050, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Committal Service will take place at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211, on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:00 am.
