Duke was born in Dallas, Texas on March 28, 1963 to Virginia and Bob Roberts. He graduated from R.L. Turner High School in 1981 and was captain of the Swim Team. Duke attended Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas and Hawaii Loa College in Honolulu, Hawaii. He owned and managed Duke’s Fast Track Delivery Service for 15 years, among many other entrepreneurial endeavors. Duke married Sharlyn Heatherley in August of 2008 at Bethany Christian Church in Dallas where they were active members of the church family. In his twenty-three years as a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Duke helped countless people and was always serving others. Duke never met a stranger… everyone loved him… once you met Duke, you never forgot him! He had a love for traveling, hiking and volunteering for such causes as The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Stem Cell Research, AA, Al-Alon, and other 12-Step programs. Duke also spread much joy to his friends by making homemade pecan pies and delivering fresh fruit from around the country.
Duke leaves behind his bride, Sharlyn Roberts, his mother, Virginia Roberts, father, W. Bob Roberts, nephew, Dustin Roberts and countless friends and extended family. Duke was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Roberts.
Visitation will be held at Bean Massey Burge Funeral Home (733 Dalworth St., Grand Prairie, TX, 75050) Friday evening between 6 and 8 pm. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at 2 pm on Saturday at the Lover’s Lane United Methodist Church (9200 Inwood Rd. at NW Hwy, Dallas, Tx) – Mark Faust, officiating.
