Mrs. Langston was a homemaker for a number of years until working for the Grand Prairie Daily News as a route manager. A couple of her then newspaper carriers have kept up with her through the years. She quickly advanced to working in the office as a bookkeeper/secretary.She retired in 1990.
She loved to read. Her favorite books were by John Grisham and Rev. Joel Osteen. After she lost her eyesight she loved books, so much she listened to audio books.
She loved to talk about her Mama and her sisters and brothers. She was the baby of eight children. She out lived them all. Right before her 91st birthday she said that she was the baby of the family and she wanted to live the longest. She paused and said she wanted to beat Jewel. Jewel was her sister, seventh born. They had a lot of fun together and were competitive but in a fun way. Jewel lived 91 years and 9 days. Erma lived 91 years, 1 month, 3 days, so she was the winner.
She loved to cook and was great at it. She always fixed enough for an army.
Our Mom believed in hard work and was a great example of that. She use to say anything worth doing is worth doing right. She had great determination to complete every project, she started and with excellence.
She was a breast cancer survivor, surviving 22 years. Her faith kept her strong through it with the support of her children.
She became a widow 3 weeks after their wedding anniversary.
Our Mom survived many hardships; the legacy she leaves us is that we, too, can be survivors.
