

Eugene Crisp, 90, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2015. Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Grand Prairie. Interment: Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. The service will be administered by Rev. Gifford Long. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Funeraria Del Angel in Grand Prairie. Honorary pallbearers: Bill Bacsik, George Angle, Dick Chambers, Tim Crittenden, Jimmy Emmons and Clenton "Fin" Winford. Eugene was born on May 28, 1924, in Robbinsville, N.C., to Nan Howell Crisp and Joshua Columbus Crisp. He graduated from Robbinsville High School and was drafted by the Navy in 1943. He became a parachute rigger and served on the USS Midway in the Pacific theater. He was recalled to active duty in 1951 and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard that participated in the initial airstrike of the Korean War.In 1952, Eugene remained active in the Naval Reserve while graduating from barber school. In 1957, he transitioned to the Navy's TAR program based in Akron, Ohio, and transferred to NAS Dallas for active duty in 1958. He was promoted to chief petty officer in 1964 and senior chief petty officer in 1966. In 1967 he transferred to NAS Glenview, Ill., where he was promoted to master chief petty officer (AFCM). He transferred to NAS New Orleans where he served as command master chief of the Naval Air Station until he retired on July 15, 1972, returning to Arlington forming his own business, Crisp Enterprises. He worked for Southland Corporation and Vought Aircraft's Powerhouse Unit until retirement in 1986. In 1991, he moved to Grand Prairie to be closer to his daughter's family.Eugene and Ramona served as the co-presidents of the North Central Texas Fleet Reserve Association and they were members of the New World United Methodist Church in Arlington until Ramona's death in 1996. Eugene was a member of the Grand Prairie Sam R. Hamilton Masonic Lodge where he served as the Worshipful Master in 2003. He then joined the Scottish Rite Temple and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie. Eugene was residing at Ashford Hall in Irving at the time of death.Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Page Crisp; brother, Delmas S. Crisp; and sister, Ruth Beauchamp.Survivors: He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Bacsik (William); son, Earl Crisp (Patricia); his sisters, Grace Carter, Bobbie Bates and Mary Young. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Angela Sardelli (Brian), Paige Bacsik and Rebecca Bacsik; and two great- grandsons, Nicholas Sardelli and Benjamin Sardelli.
