

Eva Jo Wilson Glazener was born at the Breakers Hotel in West Plam Beach, FL Sept. 20, 1943, to Alice Mae McDonald Wilson and Ruby Freeman Wilson, Sr. Her father was in the US Army. They moved to Stockdale, TX after her father was out of the Army. They later lived in Lyford, Weslaco & then settled in Sharyland TX.
Jo graduated from Sharyland HS, 1961 as Valedictorian before attending Texas A & I College, (later became part of Texas A&M University) earning a BS in Elementary Education with Special Education minor. While attending A & I, Jo met David J. Glazener, became engaged & later married on June 25, 1966, in Mission, TX. David was in Vietnam during their engagement.
After getting married, they moved to Fort Worth, TX, where David attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and earned his MA in Religious Education. They moved to Laredo, TX after he graduated and David began his career as a Minister of Education for the First Baptist Church there. Jo’s first teaching assignment was at PSJA ISD (Pharr San Juan Alamo). They adopted their first child, Robert, in 1969, while living in Laredo until moving to Fort Worth in 1970. They adopted their daughter, Karen, in 1973. The adoptions of their two children were Jo’s proudest family moments. The family then moved from Fort Worth, TX, to Norfolk, VA, where David served at Ocean View Baptist Church and Jo taught at a private school. After several years in Norfolk the family moved first to Cleburne, TX, and finally settled in Grand Prairie, TX, where Jo served most of her teaching career. She also loved working with young children in the preschool ministries of the churches where David served as Minister of Education.
With a teaching career spanning over 28 years, Jo touched countless lives through her dedication, patience, and love for learning. She was nominated “Who’s Who in American Teachers; Teacher of the Year” while teaching at Lamar & Fannin Elementary in Grand Prairie ISD. Following her retirement from teaching, she worked as a consultant for 5 years. After retiring, Jo remained active in her community and served as president of the Optimist Club for two terms. She also served as a volunteer at her church, First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie.
Jo is preceded in death by her parents, Ruby Freeman Wilson, Sr. and her mother, Alice Mae McDonald Wilson. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, David J. Glazener; her son, Robert (Stephanie) Glazener, of Houston, TX; her daughter, Karen (Judd Wylie) Glazener of Los Lunas, NM; her three grandchildren - Elizabeth “Liz” (Mark) Kim, David W. (Ashley) Glazener, Ruby “Saturn” Glazener and one great grandson, Ezra Kim. She is also survived by her brother, Ruby Freeman (Mary) Wilson, Jr., of Georgetown, TX, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jo also leaves behind many dear friends she made during her 82 years of life before she went to Heaven on the morning of August 26, 2026.
Her journey took her to many places, but wherever she lived, she left behind memories and touched lives. Her legacy lives on through the family, friends, students, and communities who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Grand Prairie, TX, 950 Mayfield Rd, Grand Prairie, TX 75050 on September 5, 2026, at 2:00pm.
Burial is scheduled at DFW National Cemetery, Dallas, TX on September 10.
Jo’s wishes were for no flowers but in lieu of, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church, Grand Prairie, TX, Preschool Ministry.
