Genaro was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on December 19, 1947, to Manuel and Flora Bernal. Known by most as Gino, he graduated from West Oso High School as the Class of 1967 Valedictorian.
He was ordained to preach the Gospel by Travis Baptist in Corpus Christi, Texas, on February 4, 1973. He was willing to give a helping hand any way he could. From repairing a neighbor’s roof in Corpus Christi as a young man after a bad storm to visitation in his later years with Inglewood Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Gino Bernal did his part for others to see Christ.
Gino dedicated his life to his family and career. He began a career in sales at Graff Chevrolet in Grand Prairie, Texas, in 1977. He was chosen for management because of his integrity and hard work ethic. Gino later went on to head up Texas General Insurance Agency for Stan Graff and ran Twin Cities Investment. Everyone well respected Gino during his forty-year tenure. He carried the duties of these positions while successfully building his business, Bernal Asset Recovery Company (BARCO).
He was passionate about figures, organization (meticulously), coaching his son’s baseball team, and family.
Gino was an avid reader and especially loved spending time in scripture. If you ever had a seat at Gino’s table, you had a seat for life. Of all the hats and titles he wore, Gino was most proud to be called Daddy and Papo.
Gino is preceded in death by and joins in heaven his parents, Manuel and Flora Bernal; his brothers, Manuel Bernal Jr. and Jose F. Bernal; and his sister, Felecita Villanueva.
He leaves behind his four children, Julia (Ronald) Self, David Bernal, Gloria (Randy) Askew, and Sylvia (Doug Dickerson) Bernal from his first wife of eighteen years, Elia Nevarez. Gino leaves behind his wife of thirty-four years, Mary Bernal; and two stepchildren, Chip (Angie) Wyatt and Celena (Anthony) Abbott. He leaves an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gino also leaves behind his brother, Juan (Amelia) Bernal; two sisters, Petra Moreno and Alejandra Herrera; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.grandprairiefh.com for the Bernal family.
