Glenda Joy Roderick Earhart was born on July 15, 1940 at her Grandparent’s home in Pecan Gap, Texas to J.C. Roderick and Ethel Shaw Roderick. She passed away after a brief illness on February 9, 2013 in Dallas, Texas. As a young child, Joy moved with her parents to Dallas and then Grand Prairie, where she grew up, graduating from Grand Prairie High School in 1959. She earned her B.A. in Elementary Education from Laredo State University and taught in the United Independent School District in Laredo, Texas until 1992 when she transitioned into the role of school librarian. Joy moved to Hillsboro, Texas to be closer to family and worked as a school librarian at Hillsboro High School until her retirement. She enjoyed reading, movies, travelling and planning family get-to-gathers. She loved children and most recently enjoyed playing with her great-grandchildren. She is survived by: husband, James M. Earhart of Hawkins, Texas; son James M. Earhart, Jr and wife Clare of Hillsboro; daughter Judith Earhart Cutting of Corsicana; grandchildren Ashley Earhart Fontaine and husband Aaron, Nathaniel Earhart, Timothy Earhart, Christina Cutting and Steven Cutting; great-grandchildren Alexis and Beau Fontaine; sister Judy Roderick Word and husband Skip, nieces Kris Word and Keli Word Day and husband Lance.
