In Loving Memory of Gloria Cruz
Gloria Cruz passed away on Sunday, May 06, 2018, in Grand Prairie, Texas, at the age of 84. She was born on February 15, 1934 in Dallas, Texas to Rafael and Florentina Peña.
Gloria grew up in West Dallas with her parents and four brothers and five sisters. She was proud to have graduated from St. Ann's School in 1952, particularly during a time when it was not the norm for young Hispanic females to receive a formal education. A hard worker throughout her life, Gloria worked for UT Southwestern as a lab technician in her younger years.
She married the love of her life Frank Cruz Sr. in 1959. Happily married for nearly 60 years, the beautiful couple had two children (Frank Jr. and Inelda Cruz) who gave them six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Gloria had a passion for cooking and always made sure that everyone was fed, often preparing multiple dishes for one meal. She also had a love for dancing, took pride in her appearance, and loved wearing bright red lipstick wherever she went. Gloria had an unconditional and unwavering love for her family but often cared for others outside of her own family with a compassion and sincerity that made many feel as if they were her own. She was a beautiful woman throughout the entirety of life and her soul matched that beauty with the immense goodness in her heart.
She is preceded in death by her father Rafael Peña, mother Florentina Hernandez, brother Rafael Peña Jr., sisters Oliva Peña, Ciria Perales, and Margarita Contreras. Gloria is survived by her husband Frank Cruz Sr., son Frank Cruz Jr. and wife Angela Cruz and daughter Inelda Cruz and husband Juan Padron, grandchildren Franchesca Quezada, Joseph Cruz, Jose Cervantes, Felicia Cruz, Clarissa Cruz, and Frank Cruz III, and great-grandchildren Juselle and Jocelyn Quezada.
