Hector Leal Villarreal was born on April 5, 1943 to Albina Leal and Adolfo Villarreal, in San Antonio, Texas. He grew up in San Antonio with his brothers and sisters. Of his eight siblings he is survived by: Adolfo Villarreal, Jr., Alicia Vidaurri, and Olivia Villarreal.
He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps October 1960-1966. He attended St. Phillip’s College in San Antonio and also attended San Antonio Community College. He worked as a civilian contractor in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He worked for Bell Helicopter as a mechanic from 1975 to 1979. He continued working overseas for 18 years with Saudi Arabian Airlines as a flight engineer on Gulfstreams in Special Flight Operations. He worked in the airline industry as a flight engineer and mechanic for over 45 years.
What began as a pen pal relationship resulted in a 52 year marriage to Blanca Dora Aguilar of San Antonio. He is survived by his wife, Blanca Dora, and his five daughters. 1. Kimberly and Jeff Baggs and children: Nathan and Abby Baggs; 2. Sr. Maria Rosario, who is a religious sister, with the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist; 3. Alvina Villarreal and children: Jacquilynn and Gabreil Uribe; 4. Elsa and Israel Calzada and children: Catherine and Elizabeth Calzada; and 5. Sallie and Phillip Smith and their son, Royce Smith.
Hector was an avid musician, skilled in many instruments. He had a passion for photography. He was also a talented, ambidextrous, free-hand artist. He dabbled in real estate and he taught himself how to invest and to trade in stocks. He will be missed for his great sense of humor and sensational cooking! A family-favorite: Floor Rice (*ask a family member for the recipe). True to his promise, he showed his wife and family many adventures across the globe. He taught his family how to open their minds and their hearts to the many cultures of the world. But most of all, he enjoyed just spending time with his family.
