Hollis Leon Stewart
July 5, 1929 – January 11, 2019
Hollis Leon Stewart, 89, beloved husband, father, pawpaw, big pawpaw and friend, departed to his heavenly home on January 11, 2019. He was currently in a residential assisted living home in Euless, recovering from a broken hip he suffered on June 9, 2018.
He was one of eight children born in Deep Creek, Texas, on July 5, 1929 to Newell C. and MayDell Baker Stewart.
Hollis and Pearlie Jean Clawson were married September 20, 1953 in Grand Prairie, Texas. To them was born a daughter, Barbara Stewart Moore and son Robert Earl Stewart.
He enlisted and served in the Air Force from February 19,1952 through February 18,1955, during the Korean War. He was a stationed at Moriarity New Mexico and went to Korea by ship, leaving out of San Francisco, California. He served as a Military Police and had received several accolades.
Hollis and Jean moved to Arcadia Park in Dallas County and bought their first “little house”. They lived there until August 1968, when they moved to Grand Prairie. After retiring they moved to Decatur, Texas to live the country life on a horse farm. He has his own “40 Acres” farm in Sulphur Springs where he raised cattle. Always faithful to take care of his livestock, he made at least one trip to the farm each week to check on things.
Hollis has been a member of Pentecostal church since giving his heart to Jesus in June 1960. He served in the office of Sunday school superintendent, teacher, song leader, deacon and was always a supporter of his church.
Hollis was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Mearl Blackwell, Lois Striegler, four brothers: N.C. Stewart, Arlie Stewart, Curtis Stewart and Earl Stewart. He is survived by his youngest brother, Vernon Wayne Stewart. He has three grandchildren: Chadwick Moore, Elisha Martin and husband Eric, Heather McCallister and husband Mason, by four great grandchildren: Annabelle Martin, Charlotte Martin, Ryatt Moore and Brayden Polly.
