

James Barton Odell Jr. born April 20, 1922 in Meeker, Oklahoma to James Barton Odell and Jennie Grace Meeker. He went to be with his Lord June 4, 2014. James was a man of God who loved his family. As a man of God he taught the word, you saw this in his work as a preacher, and Sunday school teacher. He was an avid fisherman, one of his last wishes during his last days here on this earth was to go out and fish. He was a kind, intelligent man. He spent his time writing. His writing was his escape, a gift he leaves behind for his family to cherish. James was proud to serve his country in US Navy, he was in the military for 11 years and 10 days. To his family and friends "in Texas" he was known to all as "Poppy", to those out of state he was known as "Texas Poppy". James is preceded in death by: parents, Barton and Jennie Odell; his wife, whom he married July 9, 1942, Venita Odell; sons, Mick Odell, and Jeff Odell; grandson, Bryon Irwin; great grandson, Austin Odell; brother, Bruce Odell. He leaves behind: his daughter, Elaine Attkisson; brother, Pat Odell and wife Lavelle; grandchildren, Robin Baldwin, Stephanie Hardeman, Venita Odell, Kami Guidry, Amanda Glidden; 17 great grandchildren, 3 great, great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends at Del Angel Funeral Home in Grand Prairie from 10am - 12pm Tuesday June 10, 2014. Immediately following will be a graveside service at Parkdale Cemetery in Arlington at 1:00 p.m.
