James Miller was born August 10, 1927 in Paris, Texas to Barney and Maggie Miller. On November 7, 1947 James married the love of his life Sybil Peoples. They raised two daughters, Sharon and Charlotte. James gave his heart to the Lord in the fall of 1948 in an old building of cracks and extremely cold, in Grand Prairie, Texas. He said ”God was so real, that I forgot about the cold weather.” James received his license to preach with the North Texas District of the Assemblies of God in 1953 and he was ordained in 1957 at the San Angelo District Council of the North Texas District. James spent the rest of his life fulfilling God’s calling as a pastor while also working full time at LTV.
James was one of the first group of people to help in the organizing Lakeland Heights Assembly of God in Grand Prairie, Texas. He pastored Faith Assembly of God Church in Dallas for six years. He pastored Fair Meadows Assembly of God Church from 1969 to 1997. He officiated both of his daughters’ weddings, dedicated both grandchildren and officiate both of his grandchildren's weddings.
James was preceded in death by the love of his life of 73 years Syble Miller, parents, Barney and Maggie Miller, siblings, Harry Miller, Robbie Peek, Mitchell Miller, and Jean Borton.
James is survived by daughters, Sharon and Pete Coffey of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, Charlotte and John Moore of Scurry, Texas, grandchildren: Jason Moore and his wife, April, Ashley Cook and her husband, Jay, Darla De Obeso and her husband, Pete; great grandchildren: Kolton Cook, McKynna Rotenberry, Jase Moore, Caroline Moore and numerous nieces and nephews.
Some of the greatest memories from the grandchildren:
Jason: “when I became saved and realized what it actually meant after being influenced by Grandad”,
Ashley: “When it was time to go home, he would carry us out on his back with our feet in his overall pockets”,
Darla: “Pretending to be asleep with Grandad when my mom would come to pick me up”.
Some of the greatest memories of James from the church family are of him walking around the alter carrying children while their parents were praying, playing his tambourine during song service, and countless hours of him mentoring and bringing people to the Lord.
And per his great grandson Kolton, “if he didn’t make it to Heaven, ain’t none of us going.”
Visitation for James will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Grand Prairie Funeral Home, 733 Dalworth Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75050.
Funeral service will take place Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 1:00 PM the funeral home.
Graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012.
