

John, affectionately called “Bunny”, attended school in Forreston and joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 16. He served in post-World War II Europe for two years. After leaving the Merchant Marines, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he was a corporal and was honorably discharged after three years of service. After his Air Force service, Bunny worked for the Chance Vought company as a logistics engineer for 43 years. He was a pilot, passionate about flying, and owned several small airplanes during his lifetime. Bunny was a fervent supporter of NASA and the Space Shuttle program. He was known for wearing a distinctive Stetson and custom fitted boots and gave a pet nickname to everyone he knew.
John was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Phyllis Roe (Alan); three sisters, Elizabeth, Mary Alice and Carolyn; two brothers, CD and Charles; numerous cousins; great-nieces; and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, at Bean-Massey-Burge Chapel, 733 Dalworth St., Grand Prairie. A visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 7, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzhiemer's Association.
