John Joseph Matthews, age 88 of Grand Prairie, Texas passed away on July 13, 2021. He was born on October 4, 1932 in Monmouth, New Jersey the son of John E. Matthews and Dorothy Gladys McEntee.

John served as an Airplane Mechanic in the Air Force during the 1950’s. After his discharge, he worked for AT&T in multiple roles until his retirement.

He was a loving family man who enjoyed traveling with his family. He loved to bowl and was a member of a variety of bowling leagues for most of his life. He also loved music, especially old country music and hymns. He could often be heard singing in a deep booming voice that carried far and wide. John served as a Deacon and Trustee for many years at Ardena Baptist Church. He made friends wherever he went. John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dorothy. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alma Lowther Matthews; daughter Dorothy Morgan, son Roger Matthews, multiple grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Bean Massey Burge Funeral Home, 2951 S. Belt Line Road, Grand Prairie, Texas. Committal services will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
