When Jon was a teenage his family moved to Grand Prairie where he became friends with Terri Martin’s older brother. It wasn’t long before the two of them became an item. They were married January 8, 1974.
Jon was the first graduating class from South Grand Prairie High School in 1973, where he did vocational printing. He was in the printing business for most of his adult life working at Millet Printing for 20 years. He had numerous interest and hobbies, notoriously engaging with remote controlled models. He enjoyed classic hot rods, watching drag racing and working in the pit. He rebuilt an El Camino, loved to drive fast and had the dreams of becoming a pilot. He started by getting his gliding license and was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
Jon was a history buff, especially about WWII events. He loved his motorcycle and boating with family and friends. He enjoyed dark craft beer, cartoons and Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. He could scare any dog with a single look and showed his affection by aggravating you. He could often be found puttering around his hobby table listening to classic rock. Jon was a diligent worker and a loyal friend. The friends he made remained friends for life.
Dry humor and sarcasm were hallmarks of Jon. He had a very mischievous side that got passed down to his grandsons Davin and Connor. A wonderful son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Jon was one of a kind and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife Terri Beth Martin Murphey; children Molly Ann Murphey White, Jon-Michael Murphey; parents Jessie James Murphey, Marjorie Laverne Dorsett Murphey; siblings Tracy Diane Murphey, Sheila Carleen Murphey, Jay Anthony Murphey; in-laws Barbara June Martin, Jeffrey Davin White, Stephanie Nicole Whalen Murphey; grandchildren Davin Robert White, Connor James White, Shyla Faye Murphey, Serena Kadrya Murphey and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
