Texas, he lived a life filled with love, faith, craftsmanship, and adventure.
Jon served as a Navy corpsman before dedicating 45 years to dental laboratory work, creating beautiful
crown and bridge pieces with impeccable artistry. A natural problem-solver and inventor, he could find a
solution to any challenge and took pride in doing things well.
His deep faith in Jesus Christ guided his gentle spirit. He possessed remarkable gifts of premonition and
maintained a childlike wonder about the mysteries of life. Jon loved history, documentaries, and
searching for UFOs with his children-a quest rewarded when they witnessed and recorded an actual
sighting together.
A descendant of explorer John Wesley Powell, Jon's adventurous spirit led him on gold prospecting
expeditions to Texas and Oklahoma. He and his children spent years studying alchemy and metal refining, dreaming of striking it rich while growing closer through shared adventures.
Jon's mornings always began with an enthusiastic "GOOD MORNING!" and his question, "What do you
wanna do today?" He approached each day with gratitude, often thanking God aloud for his house, his
family, and his health. Even at 86, he felt like he was still 50 and was planning the next fourteen years of
his life.
Music moved his soul-Whitney Houston could bring him to tears, while Hank Williams spoke to his East
Texas roots. He loved real people and never had his guard up, trusting in the Lord's protection
throughout his life.
Jon taught profound lessons about aging with grace through his devoted care of elderly family members.
He spent his final years at home, surrounded by love, enjoying ice cream and cake, petting his five
beloved cats, and never allowing anger or grief to diminish his joy.
He is survived by his sister Mary Hodges, his children Kelly, Joanna, and JT, and his cherished cats Audrey, Milton, Francis, Buddy, and Lisa.
Jon's love mirrored God's love-unconditional, sacrificial, and eternal. His spirit of wonder, service, and
unwavering faith continues to inspire all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, please perform acts of kindness to others, as he would have wanted.
A committal service for Jon will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Parkdale Cemetery, 701 S. Mary Street, Arlington, TX 76010.
