Joseph M. Murphy was born January 1, 1938 to Mr. Joseph Willie Murphy and Mrs. Emma Murphy of Ridgeway, South Carolina. Mr. Joseph Willie Murphy preceded Mrs. Emma Murphy in death, and Mrs. Emma Murphy later married John Wilbur Johnson (Step Father). All preceded Joseph Milton Murphy in death. With a limited high school education, Mr. Murphy began a lucrative career in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Murphy joined the U.S. Navy in 1955. He served on the U.S.S. Guadalcanal a historic battleship in the U.S. Navy, while in active duty, he was trained as a Gunners mate. Mr. Joseph M. Murphy, was awarded “Honorable Discharge” for 20 years of active duty from the U.S. Navy in 1975. After the military, he became employed with Amway Corporation in 1979. Mr. Murphy remained actively employed for more than 20 years. He later retired and enjoyed life until his death. On August 4, 1975, Joseph M. Murphy married Doris E. (Hayes) Murphy (she preceded him death) and from this union three children were born, Ms. Lillian Murphy, Mrs. Sa Londa O. Murphy Harris, and Ms. Jonica L. Murphy. Mr. Joseph M. Murphy had two other children from previous relationships; Lionel Murphy (South Dakota) and Sitrena Smith (South Carolina). As the children grew older, Joseph became a grandfather. Lillian has two boys, Nicholas and Christian Breaux, Sa Londa has two children Tony J. Lockett, Jr. and Deja Lockett; Jonica has one son, Kaiden D. Moore, Lionel has a daughter and a son, Allie and Kasey Murphy; and Sitrena has a son Michael Jackson. Mr. Murphy leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends, to cherish his memories for years to come. He will be greatly missed!
