Thoa Kim Thi Do passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on November 12, 1947, in the village of Phu Da, Ha Nam Province, Vietnam, to Nguyen Thi Nganh and Do Van Phi. She was the sixth of seven children, with one older sister, four older brothers, and one younger brother.
In 1954, Thoa relocated with her mother and siblings to southern Vietnam, living first in Rach Gia and Van Kiep before eventually settling in Saigon. Growing up during a time of hardship and uncertainty, she learned resilience and independence at an early age. At just 16 years old, she began working for the French pharmaceutical company Roussel. Through determination, intelligence, and an unwavering work ethic, she advanced to the position of Manufacturing Supervisor, dedicating 23 years of service to the company.
Strong-willed, fearless, and generous, Thoa became the de facto matriarch of her extended family. Her dedication and sacrifice helped provide stability for her loved ones, including funding the construction of the family's multigenerational home in southern Vietnam.
On October 8, 1972, she married Alphonse Kiem Hoang. Through joys and sorrows, blessings and trials, she remained steadfast in her love and devotion to her husband and family. Together, they built a family centered on faith, hard work, and sacrifice, and were blessed with five children: Ann, Trammy, Mai, Thuy, and Thien.
In November 1990, Thoa and her family immigrated to the United States, initially settling in Harvey, Louisiana, before making their home in Arlington, Texas, where she lived for the next 35 years. After arriving in America, she worked as a seamstress and later operated a home daycare business, caring for countless children before retiring.
A devout Catholic, Thoa was deeply involved in her parish community and numerous church organizations, often serving in leadership roles. Her faith was reflected in her actions and generosity. She dedicated herself to charitable causes close to her heart, including supporting the poor and sick, funding vocational education, sponsoring priests and religious sisters, and contributing to missionary work both in the United States and abroad.
Above all else, Thoa was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She found her greatest joy in caring for her family and celebrating their accomplishments. Her strength, kindness, wisdom, and steadfast faith touched all who knew her and will remain a lasting legacy for generations to come.
She is survived by her beloved husband of more than 53 years, Alphonse Kiem Hoang; her daughter Ann Hoang and husband Khoi Tran, and their four sons, Paul, Joseph, John, and James; her daughter Trammy Hoang and husband Uyen Vu, and their daughters, Kayla and Evelyn; her daughters Mai Hoang and Thuy Hoang; her son Thien Hoang and wife Tina Truong, and their children, Evan and Emery; her older brother Do Dinh Chuong; and many cherished nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends throughout the United States and Vietnam.
Thoa was preceded in death by her parents, Nguyen Thi Nganh and Do Van Phi, her sister, and four brothers.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she lived a life of faith, service, sacrifice, and love. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.”
