

LEWIS, Lavonia Eugenia (Allard), Grand Prairie resident since 1944, passed away on the morning of Thursday, August 18th, 2016. Born March 1st, 1919, in Klondike, Texas, daughter of Charles Allard and Jessie Hollon Allard. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Hollon Bradley Allard, Marion Henderson Allard, Charles Mason Allard, her sister, Gwendolyn Elizabeth Allard Waller, her husband of 52 years, Clifford Briscoe (C.B.) Lewis Jr., her son, Paul Michael (Mike) Lewis, and granddaughter, Jennifer Lewis Clouse. Survived by Daughters-in-Law, Jane Lewis and Sharon Mayer, her remaining grandchildren, David Duane Lewis, Christopher Lee Lewis, Joshua Michael Lewis, their spouses, and grandson-in-law Scott Clouse, along with six great grandchildren, Kelsey Lewis, Zachary Lewis, Kaylee Lewis, Charleigh Lewis, Lake Lewis, and Lincoln Clouse, two nieces and two nephews.
In 1938 she graduated from East Texas State Teachers College, in Commerce, Texas, with a double major in Home Economics and Speech. She worked for Huffines ISD and Cumby ISD, as a teacher and basketball coach; however, after marrying her husband, C.B. Lewis Jr., in 1940, she left teaching to become a homemaker and eventually mother to Paul Michael (Mike) Lewis in 1944. After WW II, there was a shortage of teachers and she was asked to return to teaching with the Grand Prairie Independent School District in 1946, serving 2 years as a Homemaking Teacher and 25 years as Director of Food Services, retiring in 1973.
Lavonia was a devout Christian who faithfully served the Lord, being a member at First United Methodist Church in Grand Prairie, since 1954. She tirelessly served her church and the community, touching many lives along the way.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Grand Prairie, TX, on Friday, August 26th, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, Grand Prairie, TX.
