Lawrence Calvin “LC” Searcey was born June 10, 1931, in Munday, Texas and passed peacefully on January 12, 2026, in Arlington, Texas. As the youngest child to Andrew and Eugenia Searcey, LC grew up on the family farm located east of downtown Munday. Along with his brothers and sister, they all worked diligently to maintain the family farm by growing cotton, vegetables and raising chickens. The Searcey family lived a simple lifestyle, valuing relationships with family and friends over worldly possessions.
LC attended Munday schools and was a member of the FFA where he raised, groomed and showed his prize-winning steer. While in high school, he met Sue Beason from a nearby town during an outing at the local movie theatre, he was immediately smitten. He would later propose to her at her high school, and they married March 25, 1951, celebrating nearly 69 years together until her passing in 2020.
LC and Sue remained in Munday during the first years of their marriage. He held a position at the Munday lumberyard, and they lived in a small rock house in town. After a short move to Hemet, California, they returned to Munday in 1952 and in 1953 welcomed their first son, Dennis. They continued to grow their family with the arrival of Brian in 1957, David in 1962 and Russell in 1964.
In 1966, the family packed their belongings in a trailer and made the move to Grand Prairie, Texas where they set up their forever home. LC began working as a millwright with local union 1421 where he spent 30+ years providing for his family through dedication and a strong work ethic. This dedication allowed Sue to remain at home to raise their boys and attend their school activities. During his tenure as a millwright, he established and maintained some special relationships with his fellow millwrights.
The Searcey family enjoyed many weekends and summers at their lake house on Cedar Creek Lake. LC enjoyed fishing at the lake, Galveston Bay, and area stock tanks. It didn’t matter what he caught as long as there was a fish on the hook. No matter the size, he said it was big enough to make the pan stink. After retirement, LC and Sue enjoyed traveling which also included several cruises. He also enjoyed wood working in his backyard workshop, gifting his handiwork to family and neighbors. If someone brought him a picture, he could pretty much replicate the project, no pattern needed.
LC enjoyed time with family and friends; he truly loved having guests in his home. He was most known by his family to be prepared with the annual “Christmas Eve Gift”, first person to say the words on Christmas Eve, received the first gift. He would go to all extremes to make certain he was first!
LC is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Eugenia, wife Sue, and 12 brothers and sisters. He leaves a loving legacy that includes sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Paula of Edgewood, Texas; Brian and Sarah; David and Ann; Russell and Kym, all of Grand Prairie, Texas. His grandchildren include Stacy and husband Ben; Kevin and Lisa; Crystal and husband Gabriel; Bailee; April and Jordan; and Sean. Great-grandchildren, Cecilia; Kylar; Kathryn; and Colin. Great-great-granddaughter, Willa, as well as his beloved dog, Jackie. Also dear to him, his numerous nieces and nephews and longtime neighbor and friend, Judy Schmidt.
