Uncle Leroy, where to begin. So many memories. I’ll never forget my first time baking and I used the wrong ingredient. You and Daddy still ate them all. But I could have poisoned you both. You said with love and a smile “those were delicious and the best cookies you’d ever ate!” We had many Uncle and Niece trips to Braums. We never ate the grapefruits Aunt Doris gave us. Those things were nasty. You always let me play wheel of fortune on the computer. You let me help build things and paint them. We had lots of great adventures together. You pushed me to be the best person that I could be. I’ll always remember the famous worm song which is my favorite song!! I will share all my memories with Lauren! 

From Reverend James Miller:  Doris, Leroy was a great man and I’m so thankful he was our neighbor and I got to work with him. You and your family are in my prayers.

Reverend Miller said the following on a video to Doris:  I went and talked to the boss about Leroy before he ever went to work out at LTV and told him if you hire him he will be a good mechanic, and finally they did. And he was one of the best mechanics they had out there. They came to me later on about becoming a foreman and I said, “No, I’ve got what I want.” I was a lead man. And I said, “Leroy Buchanan will make you a real good foreman. He’s young and will be here for a long time.” And he did.  I used to tease him.  I’d say, “Leroy, the only thing wrong with you is you need to take some ‘mean pills’.” But the men really liked working for Leroy and he did just fine. Everything went just real good with Leroy.  I always appreciated him.  He was a man of principles. He was a man that stood for what he believed. And he was a good worker.

Reverend James Miller, pastored Fairmeadows Assembly of God church in Duncanville, Texas and is 93 years old. He was a neighbor of Leroy when Leroy lived with his sister-in-law, Avis,    after completing his tour with the US Marine Corps. He also was a coworker with Leroy at LTV.  Leroy wanted Reverend Miller to marry him and Doris in 1968 but he had a planned vacation so his brother-in-law, Reverend Norman Butler, performed the marriage ceremony.


Just to share a memory from 1960.  Charlie (Leroy) and I lived in Antlers Ok. with our Dad.  Just Daddy and I were home one night and he was having a heart attack.  I ran down the road To a neighbors house that had a phone and the lady called the doctor.
The doctor came and took my dad to the hospital.  It was starting to snow and I had to run across town to Gerald Arney’s house To find Charlie and tell him. But Mrs. Arney said they were at the basketball game. The snow was starting to fall real hard and the flakes were really huge. I think we got 3 ft of snow that night.  I ran to the school and found Charlie, Gerald, and Henry Watson with some other boys standing outside the gym and I guess when he saw my face he knew something was wrong. I told him that dad had a heart attack and gone to the hospital so Henry Watson had a car and he took Charlie and Gerald to find a phone to call our older brother that lived in Brownwood. Three months later, our lives changed forever when our dad died. Henry Watson was a part of that life that Charlie said he wouldn’t change if he could. Nor would I.    I was 14 years old and Charlie was 16.  I wish we could go back and live it again. I love you brother. 

I feel very fortunate to have had Leroy as a friend for over 65 years.  He was indeed a very special kind of guy and a cherished friend, whom I will miss very much.

My sincere condolences to his entire family during this sad time.

Sorry to lose my childhood friend Leroy, we both grew up in the early 50s. He was a good man and a good Marine. If you didn't like Leroy you might want to look at your hole card, it might be you. My thoughts and prayers are with all the family members.

Leroy I just can’t say enough but here’s a few more.  Your woodwork in helping our son Larry,  Jr.  I found one picture so far.  You helped LJ carve Boy Scouts Derby cars one as a Blue Viper and a Batman car while he was in Elementary.  In High School you helped him build helmet boxes for the Baseball Team.  And his Senior year you helped build a boot box for his first horse trailer.

Leroy you know me saying “helped” you did most of the work and guided Lj while measuring and cutting. 💙

I am so fortunate to have known Leroy these past thirty-five years as a co-worker and, more importantly, as a dear friend.  The Leroy I knew was a talented, hardworking man with a "mechanical aptitude" and a kind, gentle soul.  On the many occasions I called to ask his advice on a repair at my house, his response was always "why don't you let me come over and help you with that?".  He was also my traveling buddy and he, Doris, Brenda, Susan Smith and I traveled all over the U.S. and Canada during the past thirty years, with Leroy making those trips more enjoyable because he was so much fun to be around (since I did the driving, he was my "designated drinker", but also the worst navigator in history!).  I know first hand that Leroy was a great husband, father and grandfather, so the void his passing leaves there will be painful, but his life should be celebrated because of all the good he did while here and the fond memories he left with  all of us.  The stories we can all tell!  I hope they play dominos in Heaven, have fisherman's platters, Corona and Dos Equis, tractors, cattle, bees and desserts - that  keep him happy until we all get there.  So long my friend.

To the Buchanan family, as I'm sure you all already know, Leroy was unique, he was a great man, I always loved him, he would always acknowledge you when he saw you and spend a minute or two to catch up, regardless of the occasion. He is truly going to be missed by many. R. I. P. Leroy. Go rest high upon the mountain. 

RiP Leroy you were loved by many and will be truly missed. My prayers are with your family to find peace and comfort. 

Leroy will truly be missed! He was an awesome man! So kind and gentle. He was always piddling with something. Lol
I remember him taking me for rides in his dune buggy and then a go kart. 
He and Glenn Grantham to rabbit hunting down off Belt Line road by the deep tank that’s no longer there! I wanted to shoot the shotgun so they obliged! Big mistake for me! Knocked me on my butt! They laughed and they laughed some more! He always fun to be around.

Leroy was always so kind to me and my kids. No matter if we were at a luncheon, party, or meeting, Leroy would approach us to see how we were doing. Such a super nice man. I know my dad, mom, and son, have already greeted him as he entered heaven. 

Leroy you’re a man of great talents.
You watched over me like a big brother. 
You saved me while water skiing & 
again from a barge during a storm.
You built a heart for us to marry under 
& thanks to you we have wedding photos.
I picture you driving Grandma Sugg 
around in Heaven 🙏🏻

So sorry to hear about the loss of Leroy. He never met a stranger. He & Doris have always been so friendly when I have seen them. They did everything together, including going back to work together as TSA agents @ DFW airport after they had retired. They laughingly made me throw away my water bottle that I forgot I had in my purse. 
I know Doris, their children & grandchildren will really miss Leroy. Prayers of comfort are sent to them during this time. 

I always liked Leroy, he always acknowledged me,the last time I saw Leroy was at the new Walmart on 303 and 161 about 6 months ago, maybe a little longer. We had to wear masks so I wasn't really paying attention and he hollered at me to say hey. He will truly be missed by many. My prayers of peace and comfort is with his family and friends. R. I. P. Leroy, go rest high upon that mountain. 

He was a such a fun loving Uncle ❤️ He was loved and adored by everyone who knew him.  I can not imagine the pain Doris, Darla, & Marty are going through.  

We loved working with, and knowing, Leroy as part of our Vought Retiree Club Board of Directors.  Leroy had a great sense of humor, and was a great guy.  He was always willing to help out in any way he could.  We will miss him greatly.

Leroy was one of my best friends. He was a very friendly, honest, giving and helpful man. I believe that he inspired me to be a better person. I will miss him greatly for the rest of my life.
