Lillian "Gertrude" Butler
November 16, 1934 – July 18, 2018
Lillian Gertrude Butler, age 83, of Arlington, Texas passed away on Wednesday July 18, 2018. Lillian was born November 16, 1934 in Siloam Springs, AR to Eva Belle and Roy Lee Ward.
Gertrude was an only child who was dearly loved. Her family moved from Arkansas to Bangs, Texas then to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1941 for her father to work at Vought. During her school years she participated in a cappella choir, square dance group, news paper staff, honor society and Whose who in America. She graduated from Grand Prairie High School at 16 years old and top of her class.
Being an only child Gertrude was very sheltered so when she accepted a job in downtown Dallas her father was very nervous. She met Marshall UDonald Butler through her mother. Donald was in the military so when they decided to get married it took multiple attempts before they were finally married on Aug 28, 1954.
They were very big on family and took many trips to Arkansas to visit relatives. They were involved with their church, First Baptist of Grand Prairie. Gertrude was highly active in the children's department. She loved to talk and tell stories and loved her dogs who were children to her. She was avid in politics and sports and always up on her current events. Gertrude battled with poor health but retained a sharp mind with a memory of an elephant.
Lillian is survived by; sister-in-law Frances Butler; niece Amy Butler, niece Jami Butler and nephew Jim Butler.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Marshall UDonald Butler; mother Eva Belle Brady Ward and father Roy Lee Ward.
