Born: 28 April 1921, 4 miles west of Chireno on the family farm.
Departed: 16 August 2019
Madeline was the youngest of 6 children and was quite proud of the benefits that went along with being the youngest. She bragged how her brothers would put cotton in her sack on the few occasions she actually picked cotton, how Papa would sometimes hook up the mules to take her to school when the weather was bad. She grew up without electricity and no indoor toilets, but never had anything but fond memories of her childhood. But that was Madeline; she always shared happy memories either of growing up, her job or her family (especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren).
She was quick to point out she served the Department of the Navy for 41 years, an accomplishment of which she was extremely proud. She started as a clerk/typist in World War II and retired as the head of Personnel for the NavPro detachment at Vought Aerospace. She was also very proud of being a member of First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie. The church was a fundamental part of Madeline’s life.
She was a constant part of her sons lives including Cub Scout den mother and a commissioned officer in the Civil Air Patrol. She was at ease on a wilderness camp out or in the left seat of a TANG KC-97. Madeline also loved to travel. Her career afforded her many trips around the US but she also visited a number of European destinations as well as Hong Kong. She was always up for an adventure. She was positive, supportive and upbeat. And because she was such a pleasure to be around, her life was filled with a great number of close friends. She is at peace now, no longer constrained by a failing physical body. There is no doubt she was welcomed home to a grand reunion with family, friends and loved ones. And it is highly likely that Square dancing was involved.
