Born in Birthright (Hopkins County) Texas on December 6, 1928, she was married for 43 years to Benjamin Franklin Whitley, Jr. until his death in 1991.
She was a familiar, smiling face, to members of the Army-Air Force Exchange Credit Union where she was assistant manager for many years, retiring in 1983.
During the late 70’s and 80’s, “Dad” Whitley was the Chapter Advisor for the Grand Prairie DeMolays. “Mom” Whitley was his active partner - opening her home to hundreds of young men – feeding them, listening to them, encouraging them and on occasion giving them some motherly advice.
She graduated from North Hopkins High School in 1946.
She is survived by one daughter, Sheila Seely of Grand Prairie; and two sons: Judge Glen Whitley & wife Brenda of Hurst and Gary Whitley & wife Carol of Grand Prairie.. A third, “adopted son” Dennis Seely, became a part of the family in 1974, then three years later fell in love with and married their only daughter, Sheila.
“Nana” had seven very special grandchildren: Scott Seely, Jessica Spence, Sarah Seely, Kristin Whitley, Jonathan Whitley, Colby Whitley and Bailey Whitley; and three great grandchildren: Jackson and Alyssa Spence, and Taylor Higgins.
