October 23, 1964 - June 21, 2026
Maria Matilde Lopez, known lovingly as "Mattie", peacefully joined our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 21, 2026.
Mattie was born on October 23, 1964, in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico to Manuel de la Trinidad and Luz Cabrera Ramirez. She was a servant leader with a relentless passion for serving Christ, her family, and friends. Her legacy of service influenced her children to commit their lives to the U.S. military and counseling those in need. She is lovingly survived by her husband, Gilbert Lopez, as well as two daughters and one son: Joy Tapajcik, Danielle Pena, and Isaac Lopez; her sons in law: Matt Tapajcik and Dakota Pena.
As a caring wife and mother, Mattie often sacrificed her own passions to ensure her husband and children had every opportunity to succeed in life. For her husband, Gilbert, she took the very brave and daring step of moving to America so that Gilbert could have better career opportunities. For her first born daughter, Joy, she instilled the gift of dreaming big for Joy’s future. This included encouraging her to leave Texas for the Naval Academy and embark on a journey of self-discovery, while always imparting biblical truths into her heart. For Mattie’s second born daughter, Dani, she instilled the hope of starting a family of her own, creating memorable moments that will be passed down to her grandchildren. For her son, Isaac, sacrifice meant spending countless late nights working on science projects that Isaac had failed to mention until the very last minute.
Even while being unselfish with her personal time, Mattie found ways to express her unwavering faith to God through ministry. Since being a teenager in Mexico up until her final days on this Earth, she served in several formal and informal capacities to the people of the church, to include Spanish translator, guest Missionary hosting, and Women’s ministry. Her love for Abba, “the Father”, showed through the way she would love others.
Mattie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Manuel de la Trinidad and Luz Cabrera Ramirez, as well as her sibling, Elvira Acuna.
