

Barry lived a life marked by generosity, faith, and intelligence, and he will be remembered with deep love by all who knew him. He carried himself with quiet strength and a kind heart, and he touched the lives of others through his steady presence, his thoughtful nature, and his sincere care for those around him. His life was one of devotion to family, service to others, and a deep appreciation for the simple blessings of each day.
Barry spent 31 years serving as a civilian with the United States Army Corps of Engineers in the Environmental Department, where he was respected for his dedication and professionalism. He later continued his career with the City of Grand Prairie in the Public Health and Environmental Quality Department for five years. Through both of these roles, Barry demonstrated a strong work ethic and a commitment to doing meaningful work that contributed to the well-being of his community. His colleagues knew him as dependable, knowledgeable, and kind, and he earned the respect of those who worked alongside him.
Outside of his career, Barry found joy in the life he built with his loved ones. He and Robyn had a love everyone wishes to have at least once in a lifetime. A love built on trust, respect, compassion and understanding for each other, True soulmates. He especially loved walking, often with his beloved dog Maggie by his side. He was an avid reader who enjoyed studying the Bible, and his faith was an important part of who he was. Barry also treasured time spent in the yard with his wife and friends, where conversation, laughter, and companionship brought him happiness. These moments reflected the warmth and contentment he found in the everyday rhythms of life.
Barry was a devoted and steadfast supporter of his step-son, Michael Arndt. He took great pride in being present for Michael’s school functions, football games, and marching band competitions, and he was always there to encourage him along the way. Among Barry’s proudest moments were Michael’s graduation from the United States Navy and Texas Tech University, accomplishments that filled him with joy and pride. His love and support were constant, and his presence made a lasting difference in Michael’s life.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Vercoe Sr. and Betty Jean Vercoe. He is survived by his soulmate and loving wife, Robyn, and his step-son, Michael Arndt. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert “Bob” Vercoe II and his wife Catherine, and William “Billy” Vercoe and his wife Peggy. He leaves behind nieces and nephews, Ashley Vercoe Harrington and her husband Sean, Heather Vercoe Phillips, James Allen Vercoe and his wife Melissa, James Robert Vercoe and his wife Paige, and Mary Catherine Kelly and her husband Doug. He also leaves several cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish his memory.
Those who knew Barry will remember his generous spirit, his faith-filled heart, and his intelligent mind. He was a man who cared deeply for his family, valued his relationships, and approached life with humility and grace. His legacy will live on in the love he gave, the example he set, and the countless memories shared by those fortunate enough to have known him.
Barry’s life was a meaningful one, filled with devotion, service, and love. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to his family and friends.
