Mary Ann Comer Hartsell was born January 23, 1936 in Giles County, Tennessee as the oldest child of Ozro and Etta Stephenson Comer. She came to Dallas at age 15 with her parents. Mary Ann worked as a secretary for Southern Union Gas Company in Dallas and later for the North Central Texas Council of Governments in Arlington, Texas.
She loved her family, gardening, cooking, reading and community. She volunteered for 12 years at the Grand Prairie Food & Clothing Co-op, serving as Pantry Manager and as President. Mary Ann was also a long-time member of Oaks & Acorns Garden Club where she served in several offices, including President. She served as chairman of the committee that published the 125-year history of First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie. Ben and Mary Ann Hartsell were members of the church for 48 years.
She and the love of her life, Ben Hartsell, Jr. were married for over 60 years before his death in March 2018. She is survived by sons Brett Hartsell and wife Melanie, Andrew Hartsell and wife Cynthia, and Brian Hartsell; grandchildren Candace Bell (Mitch), Nicole Hartsell, Ben Hartsell, Dylan Hartsell, and Sarah Hartsell. She is also survived by brothers Charles (Nancy) Comer and Wallace (Beverly) Comer, and sister Sue Edwards, as well as several nephews and a grand-niece and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at First United Methodist Church in Grand Prairie, 122 N. Center Street.
Funeral Service is Tuesday, October 9, at 11:00 am in the church sanctuary.
Interment will follow at a later day at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
