

Mary Louise Land, 93, who lived a full and well rounded life, passed away August 14, 2016. She was born September 17, 1922 and lived on a farm near Salina, Oklahoma. Louise finished school in 1941 and was married to Claude Land on November 12, 1942. She had two sons, Jim and Gary. Louise was a housewife, homemaker, church worker, and an office administrator. She went to work outside the home in 1963 after her children were grown. She worked and retired after twenty-two years with one company (American Excelsior Company) and retired in 1985. Louise spent most of her life serving and caring for other people. Her interests were her family, home, church, country cabin, garden and canning, camping, fishing, hunting, TV and movies, cooking, sewing and crafts. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1950 and was ordained as a Deacon in 1963. She and Frieda Willis were the first two women ordained in First Presbyterian Church of Grand Prairie. To many of her friends she was known as the “Jelly Lady”. She made and gave away many jars of many kinds of jellies and jams for many years. One year she made 368 jars of the good stuff. She loved being a Shepherd in her church and loved making visits to the ill and the shut-ins. Louise is preceded in death by her husband, Claude and their two sons. Many anniversaries (61 years) were celebrated by Louise and Claude. They loved to dance and party and have good times together. She is survived by, granddaughter, Teri Cerroni; great granddaughter, Grace Cerroni; sisters, Thelma Cook and Ardena Scroggins; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: 9 am to 10 am, Thursday, August 18, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Prairie.
Service: 10 am, Thursday, August 18, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Prairie.
Interment: Southland Memorial Park in Grand Prairie.
