OBITUARY

Maurine (Jones) Hamilton

October 31, 1929September 1, 2019

Maurine (Jones) Hamilton of Grand Prairie, TX, died September 1, 2019, in Waco, Texas, at the age of 89. She was born at home in Wilson, OK, on October 31, 1929. Her father, William Vester Jones, worked at various oil camps in Oklahoma, and her mother, Sylvia Gertrude (Stone) Jones, was a homemaker. Maurine is survived by her daughter, Elaine Hamilton Harrison, husband James; and son, Eddy Hamilton, wife, Diane. Preceding her death was son, David Hamilton, deceased on June 13, 2015. Also preceding her death were brother, Harold Jones, and sister, Betty Neagle. Married Glen Edward Hamilton on April 25, 1948, in Wilson, OK, whereby, they separated in 1959 and subsequently divorced in 1965.

Maurine graduated from Wilson High School in 1947 and played the clarinet in the marching band. She received an office machine certificate from Draughon’s Business College in 1958. She worked for Southland Corporation, now known as 7-Eleven Corporation, in Dallas and Irving for 27 years as a district clerk and 10 years for Sears Roebuck store in Arlington in the Customer Service Department. As a single parent, Maurine also worked part-time for many years at H&R Block in Dallas, Lovers Lane office, during the tax season and at downtown Sanger-Harris store during their auditing season. After retirement, she was a volunteer at Arlington Memorial Hospital for about five years. As a sports mom for her two sons at Grand Prairie High School, Maurine served as the Gopher Mothers President during 1971-72 for David’s senior year and as Vice President during 1976-77 for Eddy’s senior year.

For over 27 years, Maurine was an active in her home church, Westridge Fellowship Church, starting out as a Sunday School teacher for pre-school children. In September 1982, Maurine transferred to the Love Class at First Baptist Church in Arlington. In November 2008, due to her macular degeneration and because she could not drive, Maurine transferred back to Westridge. Many dear friends from the two churches were blessings and gave her great joy and memories. Other survivors are her daughter-in-law, Terry Hamilton in McKinney, TX; grandsons, Jacob, Andrew, and Matthew, wife, Cassie; granddaughter, Hannah, niece, and her fiancé, Paul Zubeldia; Jeannie Valentin and her family from the Oklahoma City area; various cousins in south Texas; and numerous close and dear friends from high school, church, and former employers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the GPHS Alumni Association; write on memo line “Scholarship Fund,” P O Box 531824, Grand Prairie, TX 75053-1824.
