

Melvin David Harris passed away on December 31, 2016 after a lengthy hospital stay. He was born January 12, 1935 in Wichita , Kansas to Melvin and Mattie Harris. He moved to Hamilton, Kansas in 1947 with his parents and two brothers. While in school he was active in football and track, graduating from Hamilton High School in 1953.
He married Ella Mae Gillett on March 10, 1955 in Eureka, Kansas. In June, 1955 they moved to Grand Prairie, Texas. He worked as a cabinet maker for Coerver Industries for 20 years at which time he opened his own cabinet shop. He retired in 2005. He was a member of Westridge Baptist Church, Grand Prairie High School P.T.A. awarded him a PTA Life Membership for services he had given to the school and P.T.A.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin M. and Mattie M. Harris and a brother, Bobby Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Ella Harris; a daughter, Sharon Harris; 2 sons, David Harris, Richard Harris and wife Becky; grandchildren, Michael Harris and wife Claire, Chrissy Johnson and husband Nathan; a brother, Bill Harris and wife Joyce and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6 pm to 8 pm, Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home in Grand Prairie.
Funeral Service: 2 pm, Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Prairie.
Burial: Grand Prairie Memorial Gardens.
