Nadine Butler, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, in Arlington, Texas. She was born on January 3, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Antone and Mary Huddy Conta.
She graduated from Granite High School in Salt Lake City in 1957, where she was recognized as an Outstanding Student in Dance. Her love of dance was a reflection of the joy and energy she brought to everything she did.
She met the love of her life, Jerry S. Butler, while working as a waitress at The Pizza Oven. It was love at first sight, and the two were married on March 21, 1958. They shared 55 wonderful years together before Jerry's passing in 2013. Their life together was filled with family, adventure, laughter, and countless memories.
She was also recognized for her dedication to her community when the Nottingham Neighbors Association named her “Woman of the Year” for 1975–1976.
A hardworking and accomplished woman, she spent many years working for Signode in Dallas as a Customer Service Manager until the Dallas office closed. She then joined Xpedex Paper Company, where she remained until her retirement. Even with a demanding career, she always made time for her family.
Some of her children's fondest memories were made during their years in Salt Lake City. Weekends often meant camping trips into the beautiful mountains. On Friday, after Dad finished work, Mom would pack the car and the family would head out for another adventure. Sundays were often spent visiting their grandfather in Ogden. Those simple family outings became treasured memories that would last a lifetime.
She found joy in everything and had a distinctive, infectious laugh that those who knew her will never forget. She was an elegant and gracious woman who loved people deeply. She formed many lasting friendships and was often the “life of the group.” She loved spending time with her friends, traveling with them, and, above all, helping others. If someone needed something, she was the kind of person who would drop everything to be there.
Travel was one of her greatest joys. She loved experiencing new places and often said that Tuscany, Italy, was her favorite destination. She and Jerry traveled to many wonderful places together, including Ireland, where she visited Blarney Castle and kissed the Blarney Stone—a memory that perfectly captured her playful spirit. Her family can easily picture her hanging upside down to kiss the stone and laughing all the while. She also treasured her Viking cruise along the Rhine River. After Jerry's passing, she continued to travel with friends for as long as she was able.
Most of all, she loved her family. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always wanted to know what they were doing and how they were doing. Although illness prevented her from spending as much time with them as she would have liked, she cherished every opportunity to be with them, and she was grateful that her great-grandchildren were able to visit her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Antone and Mary Conta; her beloved husband, Jerry S. Butler, in 2013; her son, Spencer J. Butler, in 2025; and many cherished friends and family members.
She is survived by her brother, Wayne Conta of Salt Lake City; her son, Kirk Butler and his wife, Donna, of Arlington, Texas; and her daughter, Jennifer Stines and her husband, Frank, of Arlington, Texas. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Kaylie Valenzuela and her husband, Javier, of Princeton, Texas; Lindsay Butler of Grand Prairie, Texas; Steven Stines of Arlington, Texas; and Kevin Stines of Arlington, Texas; as well as three great-grandsons, Jameson Valenzuela, Hayden Valenzuela, and Jaxson Valenzuela.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, generosity, hard work, family devotion, friendship, and a life well lived. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
