Nelda Meador Branum passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019, in Mansfield, Texas. She was a long time resident of Canton, Texas, and was temporarily staying in the Mansfield area to be closer to her doctors.
Nelda was born on March 2, 1933 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas and grew up in Lewisville and Pilot Point, Texas. Nelda graduated from Pilot Point High School, where she met Billy C. Branum. In 1951, Nelda and Bill were married by Reverend J.T. Clinton at the Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point, Texas. Bill served his country in the U.S. Air Force and the Air Reserves. Nelda and Bill's family grew with two sons and they lived in Pilot Point, Denton, and eventually Grand Prairie. In 1964, Bill and Nelda purchased 6+ acres of land in Grand Prairie, and a few years later began to build their home to raise Rusty and Brent. They later purchased land in Canton, established the "4B" brand, and also built a home which later became their primary residence after they retired. Nelda was employed and retired from LTV in Grand Prairie after 36 years as a secretary and materials cost estimator. After retirement, Nelda and Bill moved to Canton, Texas in the early 1990's where they attended Tundra Baptist Church. They enjoyed raising cows on their farm, fishing, riding bikes and spending time with their grandchildren. They also loved traveling in their motor home and travel trailers. Nelda enjoyed oil panting, square dancing, music, arts and crafts, playing Skip-Bo and meeting new friends. At the time of her death, Nelda was a member of First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie.
Nelda was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Billy Clyde ("Bill") Branum, in 2005; her father, Clinton Meador in 1977; and her mother, Fay Meador in 2008. Survivors are sons and daughters-in-law, Rusty and Mickey Branum of Midlothian, and Brent and Donna Branum of Grand Prairie. Also her grandchildren, Chad (wife, Megan), Todd (wife Candice), Derrick (wife, Amanda), Leah and Dylan Branum, as well as, great-grandchildren, Maggie, Logan, Austyn, and Cash Branum. Nelda is also survived by her sisters, Rozelle Krueger of Cedar Hill and Clinta Tischler of Gun Barrel City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 4, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Bean Massey Burge Funeral Home, 2951 S. Beltline Road, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052.
Services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie, located at 950 Mayfield Road, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052.
Burial will be at the Pilot Point Community Cemetery, 601 N. Prairie Street, Pilot Point, Texas 76258.
Pallbearers will be Chad Branum, Todd Branum, Derrick Branum, Dylan Branum, Johnny Krueger and Cary Tischler.
