

Rene was born on November 23, 1964 in Lubbock,Texas to Bonnie Carbajal and Manuel Torrez, Sr. He graduated from South Grand Prairie High School in 1983. After graduating high school, he chose to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He was an Army Ranger from 1984-1995, earning many awards and medals, a commitment that spoke volumes about his dedication and bravery. He then chose to further his education at The University of Maryland, majoring in history.
Rene found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed attending rock concerts with friends and he was a member of the Moose Lodge. His favorite hobby was hanging out at home with family and grilling in the backyard. He was known for making delicious "special burgers" and poppers. Norma and Rene were the perfect grilling duo. Rene was also well known for spoiling his nieces and nephews rotten, hyping them up on sugar, and then sending them home to their parents.
Rene is survived by his son, Anthony Torrez of Grand Prairie, TX, his sister, Elida Bell of Arlington, TX, as well as an abundance of family and friends who are left to cherish his memory. He is preceded in death by his wife, Norma Torrez, his daughter, Carmen Torrez, his father, Manuel Torrez Sr., and his mother, Bonnie Carbajal.
