Richard Paul Strahan

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend, Richard Strahan on Monday, 25 September 2023. At the time of his death, he was 79 years old. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Ann, and is survived by his brother Michael Strahan.

Richard was born on 5 November 1943 to Vern L. Strahan and May Tickerkoff Strahan in Houston, Texas. His family moved several times during his childhood, finally settling in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Richard loved to recall growing up there, telling stories about running through fields, fishing for crawdads with his friends and picnics on the banks of the river.

After graduating from Pascagoula High School, Richard joined the Army. He served with distinction and received several commendations before being discharged honorably. After his discharge Richard attended college and graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in May 1978, earning his Bachelor's degree in Education. He also met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Johnson. They were married on July 17, 1970.

Richard worked as an educator for many years before retiring. After his retirement, he and Barbara settled in the Fort Worth, Texas area.

Richard is remembered by his many friends for his sense of humor, love of life and passionate devotion to his favorite NFL team - the New Orleans Saints. He was a walking almanac of the team's accomplishments and would always do his best to watch every game. His best memories of the Saints are from games he attended in New Orleans and later on in Dallas Texas. Over the years, Richard collected many fan items related to the Saints.

A Celebration of Life for Richard will be held Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Grand Prairie Funeral Home, 733 Dalworth Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75050. Following the Celebration of Life will be a Committal Service at 2:00 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
