A lifelong resident of Grand Prairie, Texas, and a proud graduate of Grand Prairie High School, Bobby dedicated his life to serving his community. For 40 years, he faithfully worked with the Grand Prairie Water Department, where he managed the shop with unmatched work ethic, loyalty, and pride. His commitment left a lasting impact on both the city he loved and the many coworkers who became like family along the way.
Bobby was a simple man in the best sense of the word—he worked hard, laughed big, and lived life fully. When he wasn’t taking care of business, you could find him at the track, pouring his heart into his passion. Bobby spent years building, refining, and racing his 1969 Chevy Nova. Known for his eagerness and unmistakable presence at the starting line, he was famous for launching that Nova onto two wheels—thrilling the crowd and sending a clear message that he came ready. It was just one of the many ways Bobby showed up boldly and unapologetically as himself.
Above all else, Bobby was a family man. He lived for his family, cherishing every moment spent together. Whether it was a gathering, a celebration, or simply lending a hand, Bobby was always the first to show up and the last to leave. To Bobby, family was not defined by blood alone, but by love, loyalty, and the bonds you choose to build. His circle was wide, and his heart was even bigger.
Bobby is preceded in death by his strong and loving father, John Spurgin.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Gracie Spurgin; his loving mother, Sue Spurgin; his sister, Sandra Benko (Martin); his Aunt Vick and Uncle Gene; and his nephews, Zach, Jacob, and Matthew, along with his great-nieces, Kaylee and Elena. Bobby is also lovingly survived by his three stepdaughters, Trista (Nathan), Jackie (Jon), and Ashley (Steven), as well as his four step-grandchildren, Steven (Summer), Jasmine, Alexandria, and August. He is further survived by his honorary brothers, Rob (Donna) and Jay (Karen), and a host of dear friends, mentees, and coworkers whose lives he touched so deeply.
Pallbearers honoring Bobby’s life will be Zach Robinson, Jacob Robinson, Matthew Benko, Gene Crain, Jay Cox, and Robby Lawless.
Bobby was a big man in every way—big in presence, big in heart, and generous in the love he gave to others. The world is better for having had him in it. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he impacted, and his love and light will continue to shine through all who were blessed to know him.
