Robert (also known as Bob & Bobby) was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. He grew up with his 4 brothers and a sister, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He attended St. Anthony’s and Kapaun Mt Carmel Catholic High School, where evidently he was known as a “heartthrob”. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy but quickly realized the Navy wasn’t for him and enlisted in the Air Force. He retired as an Air Force MSgt after a 20 year career that took him around the world. In 1965 he met and married the love of his life, Julie Ann Stigall, while stationed at Edwards AFB in California. They had two children while at Edwards, Robert Leo, Jr. and Kimberly Ann. They were soon sent to Taiwan and had their third child, Michael Scott. He enjoyed his time in other countries, such as Taiwan, Spain, Greece, and Guam as well as other states such as California, Kansas, Alaska, Utah, and Texas. After retiring, the family settled in the DFW area of Texas and that has been their home since 1983. He loved and supported the military his entire life. It was who he was and he was so proud to have served his country!
He loved traveling even after retiring. He took many road trips across the US and a few trips to the Caribbean and Mexico.
If you walked into his house he was either listening to country music or watching a Western or sporting event. He could watch the same western a million and one times and never get tired of it, especially if it starred John Wayne. He was an avid sports enthusiast, where he cheered on the Dallas Cowboys, Stars, and Mavericks, and Texas Rangers. This enthusiasm extended to his rivalry with his brother Leonard in California, where every season the two would bet on who won the most games, Rangers or Angels. He loved to bowl and play golf with friends and family. He treasured playing golf with his sons and son-in-law. Many stories have come from those golf games. He also loved to play cards! Whether it was Pitch, Pinochle, or poker he always had a good time. Those that played with him will tell you that his laugh was the highlight of those games. His loud and infectious laugh will be remembered and missed by all. He also cherished family get-togethers. Whether it was a backyard BBQ, playing water volleyball, corn hole, or any number of other games, he loved all of it! But most of all he loved his family. They meant everything to him. From a tough military man to a sweet, loving, sentimental husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa. He will be loved and missed by so many.
