Roger Lewis Honey of Grand Prairie, TX went to his heavenly home on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the age of 74. He was born on August 28, 1947 in Anna, Illinois to the late LeRoy Quentin Honey and Felma Honey. He graduated from Anna-Jonesboro High School in 1966. Shortly afterwards he entered the US Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. Roger served for 4 years and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. In 1972, he earned a degree in Automotive and Diesel Technology from Bailey Technical School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, uncles, and aunts. Survived by his wife Deanna Honey, children Alyssa Jackson, Eric Honey, and Colette Skiles; sons-in-law Jason Jackson and Greg Skiles; grandchildren Cameron Jackson, Cody Jackson, and Chesney Skiles; sister Sharon Honey and brother James L. Honey, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Roger’s childhood home was in Anna where he played in the woods and fished at a nearby pond. He enjoyed camping at Little Grassy Lake with his dad and go-kart racing. As a teenager, his favorite memories were of a canoe trip with the Explorer Scouts to Wisconsin and being crowned the King of Teen Town. While in the Air Force he was licensed to Run-Up and Taxi the T37 and T38 aircrafts, awarded Airman of the month, and was introduced to his wife of 52 years, Deanna. They married and later moved to Texas for a job at Mack Trucks. He worked for other trucking companies and Greyhound Bus Lines. He completed his professional career as a Field Technician installing fire alarm systems for Design Systems Group. Roger enjoyed working with his hands on countless projects. Stained glass was one of his favorites, but spending time with his children and grandchildren was his great joy. Roger loved the Lord, his church family, and serving as a Deacon at The Oaks Baptist Church.
