OBITUARY

Russell Clare Laney

January 28, 1945October 16, 2019

Russell Clare Laney, 74, passed away October 16, 2019, after a lengthy illness. He was born January 28, 1945 to Clarence Joy Laney and Twila Mae Hawk in Safford, AZ.

Russ had a great love of music and reading. He always shared these interests with his family and friends. Susan always told him that he possessed more "worthless" knowledge than anyone she had ever known. He was a man of superior intellect, with a great sense of humor, and a warm and caring heart. He served in the United States Army for 20 years, before joining the high tech industry, and ultimately, partnering in the armored car business.

Russ and Susan were married in Basel, Switzerland on November 22, 1977. Susan wrote these vows - sentiments that only grew stronger over 42 years together.

Thoughts of days together, dear, ring sweetly upon my ear. Days of trials and tribulation shared are none-the-less, dear. Shared hope, shared love, shared fear, shared ill and shared tear throughout all our days as one shall bring us only closer throughout the years.

I promise you an open heart to every problem, dear. I promise you my hand is there to help to guide you clear. I promise you my breast, my love, upon to shed your tear. I promise you, most importantly, dear, my love throughout the years.

I give to you, today my love, a ring to show my cheer. A ring, a tiny symbol of all my love, my dear. A ring to shine when times aren't all we want them to appear. A ring to glow with love enough to last a million, million years.

Those that will miss him here on Earth, take great solace in the fact that he has achieved eternal life with God.

Russ is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Joy Laney and Twila Mae, and granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Harkins.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Laney; daughter, Lynn Nyberg and her husband, Richard; son, Stephen Haithcock and wife, Karen, and daughter Kristi Abernathy; grandchildren, Timothy, Katie, Spencer, Brendon, Ava, Kendyl, Garrison and Colton; brothers, Dave and Scott Cosper, and sister, Beth Ringwald.

Garrison's Note - My Papa, Russ Laney, was a good man. He died on October 16, 2019 at 3:46 p.m. Once I got to the hospital, my mom told me that he went to Heaven. I burst into tears. Once he got better, I wanted to go fishing with him. I love you papa.

Sorry I destroyed your back porch Russ. I was naughty, but you were so lowkey, kind and gentle. My humans loved you and I understood why. Your calm demeanor was very soothing & brought peace.
Love, Ashley

A Grandad holds his grandchild's hand for a little while & their heart for a lifetime. Russ enjoyed Spencer's Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony and Spencer was so happy to have him there. It was a lovely time together.
