On the morning of July 10, 2021, Scott Wayne Donaldson died at the age of 73 after battling kidney cancer. Scott was born in 1948 in Dallas, Texas to Robert “Bobby” Donaldson and Wilma “Joyce” Donaldson. He graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1966 and attended Sam Houston State University before joining the United States Air Force (stationed in Minot, ND) where he served 4 years that included a tour in Vietnam.
Scott married his high school sweetheart, Jamie Corley, in 1968 and they were together for 53 years and blessed with two daughters, Stacey and Martie. After serving in the military, Scott joined the family nursing home business where he served as administrator for 15+ years. Scott was the ultimate entrepreneur and after his family sold the nursing homes, he started and ran several businesses including a medical supply store, auto dealership, convenience store/shopping center and ended his career running/owning a local tavern. Scott retired in 2019.
Scott was known for his good sense of humor and his contagious laughter among his friends. He had a fun-loving spirit and always had a joke to share as he loved putting smiles on people’s faces. He was a dependable, reliable and loyal friend to many and was always willing to lend a hand to any of his friends in need. Scott enjoyed playing tennis, golf, fishing and was an avid music lover and spent time playing his guitar. He was also very artistic and always amazed his kids with the talent he had to draw about anything. He took up painting in his later years. Scott was passionate about blues/jazz music and attended live music events whenever possible. Scott and Jamie loved to travel and London, the Caribbean and Mexico were some of their most cherished trips. Stacey and Martie valued the time they spent with their dad, especially going with him to music events, painting classes and comedy clubs. He treasured spending time with his grandsons and some of his favorite trips with them included heading to the mountains in Colorado, Disney World and Wisconsin where they made lasting memories. He also taught Jackson to drive and enjoyed that bonding time with him. “Poppy” was also one of their most loyal fans and always supported their sports and activities.
Scott was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Donaldson and survived by his father, Robert “Bob” Donaldson. He is also survived by his wife of 53 years, Jamie Donaldson, daughter Stacey Donaldson Harycki and husband Jim Harycki of Flower Mound; daughter, Martie Donaldson of Grand Prairie and grandchildren Jackson and Cade Harycki of Flower Mound; and beloved cousin, Keith Whitsel and his wife Gloria of Grand Prairie.
Scott was a kind, generous man, deeply loved by his friends and family and will be dearly missed!
