Shirley Yvonne Johnson

Shirley Yvonne Durham Johnson, 92, of Grand Prairie, Texas, entered into her heavenly rest on August 4, 2025. She was born on November 17, 1932, in Dallas, Texas, to Omer Lee Durham and Mary Lee Blessing, the youngest of three daughters. She grew up in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1950.

She met her future husband, Bob F. Johnson on a blind date on July 4, 1953. He told her on their first date that he was going to marry her. They married on January 16, 1954. Their family increased with the birth of three children – Cindy, Stephanie, and Greg. Bob preceded her in death on August 6, 1973.

Shirley lived a full and long life, and her love of the Lord was evident in everything she did. Many people have commented how her loving and gracious spirit drew them in and made them feel very much loved and cared for.

In addition to her husband Bob, she was preceded in death by grandson, Colin Pond, her parents, and sisters Eula Fitzgerald and Billie Gattis as well as brothers-in-law J.C. Fitzgerald and Bob Gattis.

She is survived by daughters Cindy (Kevin) Rummel and Stephanie (Kevin) Pond, son Greg (Jennifer) Johnson, grandchildren Rebecca Johnson, Andrea (Tommy) Stroman, Katie (Alex) Hilland, Matthew Pond, Steven (Meagan) Rummel, and Elizabeth (James) Mulbry, and great-grandchildren Colin Stroman, Evelyn Hilland, Avery Rummel, and Stetson Rummel. Shirley is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice Plus of Arlington for the care and love shown over the past year to Mom and to our family, especially George Ngwora and Shaunta Richey.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 15 at 9:30 a.m., at The Woods United Methodist Church, 1350 Bardin Road, Grand Prairie, with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m.
