

Smitty made his debut on January 3, 1940 in Abilene, Texas to parents; George Wesley and Carra Mae (Smith) Maberry. Smitty was the youngest of the Maberry family, following his older brother, Bob; sister Dixie; and twin sister, Betsy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Carra Mae Maberry; brother, Bob Maberry; sister, Dixie Shipman and twin sister, Betsy Mitchell.
Smitty graduated from McCaulley High School in 1958; there were a total of 6 seniors in his graduating class. Smitty and his twin sister, Betsy, were Homecoming King and Queen in 1955-1956. Following his high school graduation, Smitty served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class (APP Airframe Repairman), where he was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California. Following his time in the Air Force, Smitty went to work for Vought Aircraft in March of 1966 until he retired in January of 2001. In his spare time, Smitty most enjoyed video poker in Vegas, cruises, gardening, photography, decorating the house for Christmas, tinkering with electronics, and most importantly, being with his family. Smitty was a phenomenal country and western dancer and enjoyed dancing with his best friend and wife, Edna. You could always count on Sunday afternoons being filled with Cowboy football games. He had a wonderful sense of humor and refused to say goodbye; instead preferred to say "later, later."
He is survived by his wife, Edna Maberry. Daughters; Shandele D. Carpenter (Bobby) of Conroe, Shalla M. Freeman of Grand Prairie, and Sonya M. Lee (Patrick) of Grand Prairie. Grandchildren; Courtland Carpenter, Garret Lee (Leslie), Heather Miller (Eric), Lauren Upchurch (Devin), Brandon Lee (Courtney), and Ashley Freeman (Daniel). Great grand children; Andrew Lee, Parker Lee, Grayson Upchurch and Ryder Upchurch.
Smitty's grandsons will have the honor of carrying their PaPa to his final resting place at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Courtland Carpenter, Garret Lee, Brandon Lee, Eric Miller, Devin Upchurch and Daniel Whittington.
